    No new viper coming

Here ya go...so starts the whining and tears

    https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...t-in-the-plan/

"We want a new Viper. You want a new Viper. But will Dodge build a new Viper? Speaking to media today after Fiat Chrysler's Capital Markets presentation, Sergio Marchionne didn't totally close the door on a new iteration of Conner Ave's supercar, but he didn't give us much hope for one either.

Both Automobile magazine's Todd Lassa and Eric Lawrence of the Detroit Free Press report Marchionne as saying a new Viper is "not in the plan." Marchionne added the last Viper didn't sell well and make much money. He also said the Viper wouldn't work with a "cute" European engine, which we're going to guess means a twin-turbo V6 or V8 from Alfa Romeo or Maserati.

    New @Dodge Viper? Marchionne: "That's a great question. ... It's not in the plan, if that's what you're asking." Didn't make money, and wouldn't work with a "cute" Euro-style engine...@fcagroup #FCAFiveYearPlan @automobilemag"

[ ]“Not in the plans” maybe it means it has been DECIDED-they will build it.

[ ]Ah, ya just never know. They’re probably just bull( .... )ing everyone.

    [ ]Never say never.

[ ]Build it and they will come.

[ ]It could be a coverup for publicity

I put an "X" next to all that applies. What did I win? What did I win? LOL

My FAVORITE part of this article is the first line... "We want a new Viper" No you don't... you want another American car you can dump on while stroking M3s and 911s. Both C+D and R+T have been complicit in the demise of the Viper, even leading the crusade against it at times. R+T, how dare you?

Just as well. The Viper was never supported from a marketing standpoint or dealer standpoint except for a few known dealers. It had it’s time and now it is time to let it Rest In Peace. Someday, the Viper may be recognized for what it really was, but in the meantime, I would rather have the name Viper mean something, not be like a former great athlete that keeps trying to hang on and look pitiful. I have no ambitions of driving a foreign car called a Viper.

Dodge- Minivans, Police Fleets, Pickups. If you don't want to expand the franchise FCA then sell it?
And they had a chance to sell Connor and the Viper to owners group once.
One less Sports Car to hand them their ass at the track...

To actually believe that the car is dead forever is beyond silly. The last Viper rolled off the line more than once. It’s called marketing, if the right package comes together it will certainly be back.

With Europe looking to ban ALL gasoline and diesel engines in the upcoming years, autonomous cars moving to the forefront, and no support from Fiat what makes anyone think there is any market for the car anymore? It was dropped this time because of safety regulations that they knew were coming for years...and yet they did nothing to make the car comply to keep it around.

I agree. I like, "Didn't make money?" Always helps if you promote a great car instead of just killing it. We'll see...

Won't convince me , and did think the early date from Car and Driver was way optimistic, but whether 2 years or 10 , the Viper will return, as it is too big a Marketing Legend to let go forever, imho. Hmmm......and Sergio will be retiring soon, so who knows what his successor will do? I am just a never say never kind of guy, ha!

At this point, I'm squarely in the camp of "let it go forever".

I'd rather live life with the gratification of knowing I own (or have owned) a small piece of a real race car legend. It's just easier/cooler that way.

Guess if there's nothing else to talk about these come-back threads are gonna continue.

as Sergio said, it needs to be Americanized, not a parts car from other fiat cars. so good luck with that, that would be a big exspensive project

Right. And lots of the people stressing/ speculating won't even be alive in 20 years when/if it ever returns. Lol

He’s not American, so not concerned with Dodge having a halo car. He’s only concerned with making money which is why he’s here...

I’d still take a souped up small displacement “european” TT V8 making more power than the current mill though....performance trumps nostalgia in my book...

Do you even see the irony & hypocrisy in claiming someone isn't American while condemning capitalism & praising European engines? !

You missed the point....He doesn’t care for the brand therefore he doesn’t want them to have a position above blue collar commuters with big engines stigma. They aren’t to be seen or thought of near the almighty european supercar subsidiarys. Regarding the hypocrisy you’ll have to try harder...I always learned capitalism was about building a better product (ie. more powerful V8 regardless of the technology source or pedigree rather than nostalgia that number of cylinders defines a product). LOL.

Also, I said he isn’t American because I believe he’s not American...I don’t mean it figuratively...I meant it literally...now, if he is in fact American, my apologies. I was under the impression he was imported from Europe/FIAT to run things.

The times they be a changing. Most young people (who will be the future drivers) could care less about a Viper. They could care less about Ferrari as well as from what I am seeing they are getting away from driving cars...period. And what they are driving is nothing performance related...it is all about being "Green". Has a Viper ever been a status car like a Ferrari or Lambo? No, and it never will be. The only thing the Viper ever had going for it was rarity. Ferrari sells 7ooo cars a year on the average, 2300 Lambo's are sold each year. The Viper was never limited edition, and you could only get X amount per year...so what makes anyone think that it was making money or is worth investing billions of dollars to produce at such low numbers to appease a limited market?
