Does the Gen 6 announcement affect everyone s inflated sense of worth on SE cars

Guess those collectible special editions aren’t so valueable now, are they?

We all shed a tear when the Dodge Viper was killed off, and another when it Detroit-based production facility was officially killed off too. Fanboys and long-time customers scrambled to buy up the Viper in hopes to hang onto the once great car, and don’t forget the five “celebratory” special editions released in 2016 after the Viper’s fate was sealed. All of that drama and no we’re here to tell you that the Viper is coming back, and it’ll probably hit the market for the 2021 model year. Sorry, folks, but if any of you rushed to get your hands on the last run of Vipers, you got taken like a whore in handcuffs at an Ivy League frat party.

All this Gen 6 hype is based on the May 2018 C&D article about a hypothetical Viper in 2021. Even if that happens, it won't be remotely the same car. It would be a completely new car that is simply badged "Viper". Whether it happens or not, I think values will be evolve the same. The Gen 5's with special significance (the last off the line, the Nurburgring GTSR, and some others) will command MSRP or higher prices.

That said, I think all Vipers are going to hold their values around where they are now if they are in the same condition as now. That raw Viper with a V-10 and a manual will never be made again.

FWIW, I'm sure the name "Viper" will be on a FCA product in the future. That car will be built in Italy or at Prefix.

Robert Moore sounds like he's got a major axe to grind with FCA and is spinning a rumor to suit...or he just really needed to submit an article to make this month's rent.

    Totally worthless article.

    Winner!

Ain't gonna happen. Who would they sell the car to? Who is the target buyer?

If they can build a car that better leverages sharable platform components, I don't see why not build it. I think something in the same starting price range that performs better than the Gen V will sell well.

Plenty of people here will cry it isn't a Viper, but most of them didn't stand in line in 2013 to support the product line then, so who cares what they think.

Gen 6 ain't happenin'. However, you guys still have one final opportunity to purchase the last and most epic snake ever made. Any hammer price under 1/4 mill is a steal! Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

If they do come out with a Gen 6, I'll be too old to care.

Why is it extra hard for many to believe or even absolute denial a gen 6 will come? Like there will always be a new vette, gt2, gt3, gtr, nsx, m3, m5, & so on. So why can't this same idea apply to the viper?

Well if they do build a Gen 6 it is unlikely, as said, that it will feature a V10. Also I can see this being built somewhere like Prefix , in the same way Multimatic build the new FGT.

    No it doesn’t.

And yet we are enjoying them NOW and not worried about four years from now. Your recent posts seem to indicate you have an issue with special editions and your inability to own one at a “discount” price. Guess what...you’re not picking one up at 120K like your last ACR-E.

There's no Viper in the works.

If you build it, they will come.

How can media outlets publish such blatantly false and borderline defamatory material with impunity? The ink isn't even dry yet on the checks that were written to purchase the contents of the plant. Maurice publicly stated that there's not an ounce of truth in the article. Even if they come up with a spin off car like the "serpent" or "venom," without a manual transmission and trademark naturally aspirated V10 it's no Viper. It went out on top. Let it RIP already.

At NVE Ralph Gilles did say regarding the future of a Gen VI "I can neither confirm nor deny". That led me to consider the possibility that they either haven't ruled out the possibility of one, or that they might already be trying to put together a feasible plan for one. Dodge and FCA have to be wrestling with the fact that they were never able to fully develop the Gen V with convertible and maybe DCT offerings, and with the lost opportunity of simply letting the Viper name go to the grave, and the brand without an aspirational Halo car.

LOL !!! When has media been concerned with reporting only stories that are NOT misleading or using sketchy or unsubstantiated information? It starts straight at the top with the National News media. Local news is the worst. Of the several local news stories that I had personal knowlege of, each one would lead a reader to believe something other than what actually happened. News is just another entertainment medium.

With all due respect "Bro", you have literally become annoying due to the fact that you would personally like to see the Viper be gone forever simply so you can preserve the futuristic value of your own car. There are plenty of us on here, probably the majority, that are truly passionate about the Viper and would rather take the extra $10,000, $20,000 or whatever depreciation might come, in the hopes to see a new revision of the Viper return. While there may not be any concrete evidence or truth behind some of the recent publicity, at least there is a shimmering light for those of us that have had our hearts captured by this amazing car for almost three decades.
