I could see those times for sure.

I'm by no means a stud like Danny Popp (I love watching his videos), and felt like I should have been able to get the car into the 1:50's making a few small changes and with some more track time out there.

Thanks for posting those reference times.

Optima runs there every year, but they change it up every year. The one time they ran the same config, Danny Popp got a 1:44-1:45 in his C5 on street tires.

Great track, fun day! Andy, if you are using a GoPro set the white balance to the center "spot" reference point. Then it will always be clear, wherever your helmet is looking. You'll get to see the track much clearer, in the vids. Glad you got the car out there!

Regarding the first session, it was hard to play "nice" when there were yellow flags waving, standing yellow flags, flaggers looking into the sun, etc. There was a major miscommunication as to what the flags mean and when they should be waved. Ever seen a yellow and red flag waved at the same time by the same corner worker?? Yup, I witnessed it and was not sure what to do.

The second session is where the real shit show happened and I witnessed all corner flags waving yellow, then one corner worker waving a black flag, and another waving a red flag. This happened on the back corner leading into the back straight away.....I'm seeing a red flag and getting ready to stop but at the same time the TKO Motorsports car and Flatout are coming up fast and pass me into the corner. It didn't get any better after that. After the second session I was pissed and went up to volunteer "Jerry" who conducted our drivers meeting to let him know that the flaggers were going to get someone killed or hurt. But there were already 5 or 6 other guys chewing Jerry out before I could even get to him, lol. Jerry did his best to assure us that they would take car of the flagging issue.

The third session was actually pretty good. The flaggers did much better and I was able to get laps in at speed without having an aneurysm caused by the cornerworkers. I did not see any incidents or issues regarding the other VOA drivers, kudos to them.

I do think that future VOA track events need to have numbers on the cars. If a Viper does something wrong and a corner worker calls out "black flag the red Viper"......well that could be half the field. I do know of another driver that was black flagged for spinning out and had to come in only to find it was another Viper of the same color. He never spun out or lost control of his car.

It was a very fun day at the track and it was a very nice facility. The members from the Las Vegas SCCA region running the autocross did a great job and had a great attitude. I haven't autocrossed in 9 years and had a blast.

I'm not sure who the cook was that did the Mexican lunch buffet at the track, but it was damn tasty!!
Ain't that the truth. I was black flagged in the first session (red group) for driving aggressively and going off track. I told Jerry and the pit out guy I had no idea what they were talking about. I had my son in the car and my tires never left the asphalt. I never even passed anyone as I was showing my son the line. Next session a friend and I got pulled over after the checker saying that if we didn't shape up we were going to get kicked out of the whole event. Jerry went postal on me and said the corner workers said we were going off track and throwing gravel all over. I told Jerry that was BS and again reiterated that my tires never left the asphalt. I also told him that the flag workers had absolutely no idea what they were doing. Red and yellow waving together, some stations waving black, other waving yellow. And there was nothing wrong on track.

Jerry was pretty hyped up and told me that the flaggers were pros. That's when 5 or 6 other red drivers came up to bitch about the flaggers. Jerry calmed down when he realized that it wasn't me being a jerk. I've been tracking for over 20 years and this was the FIRST time I have ever been black flagged. And I've never seen a yellow and red waved together or only two corners waving black while others waved yellow. After getting an ear full from several red group drivers Jerry spoke to the head flag guy over the radio. When the next group headed out on track I heard this head flag guy yelling at corner 1 about waving a flag for no reason - "Corner 1 put your flag away! There is no damn reason to be waving a flag!" Maybe they figured they got paid more if they waved more flags or maybe they didn't expect us to drive quickly (it was the red group after all).

Didn't see one flag on the third session. I don't blame Jerry for this, he was a volunteer and was only relaying the BS that the corner workers were saying. The corner workers need to attend a flagging instruction course.

It was definitely chaotic out there the first two red sessions on Friday! However, got out 6th in the third session and passed 5 guys and had open track in front of me for 3 laps! It was awesome turned (2) 1:57's on pzeros and then got my ass passed by flatout, my son just laughed at me.

Had a great time and it was good to catch up with everyone, nice to see Andy again.

Were the flag workers the ones that normally work at that track?

Nope. That track doesn't have a set of flaggers attached to the track, like Chuckwalla or some other tracks.

Whoever rents LVMS ORC brings in their own workers.
