This is a thread to vent and see if anyone else has had the issue so we can compare notes.
I love the new car. Not a single complaint so far from the drive, mechanics or anything else except for uConnect.
I FREAKING HATE THE UCONNECT RADIO!
The dealership I am taking this to for the fix in Miami will remain nameless for now. But if this continues.... it won't.
I picked up the car a little over a month ago. The day I picked it up, I showed the dealer there was an issue with the radio. It would sometimes take a few minutes to turn on when you started the car. This is before I even drove off. The Viper Tech took the car back and looked it over. Tried to download the latest software update but supposedly had some issue that he could not download it. They asked me to come back in a week and that he would have it sorted out.
I go back a week later and they tell me that there is a new version of the software on the radio that should not be there. The version is 17.11.17 and it is creating a series of issues. The software that should be on there is 17.11.07 as opposed to ".17". The tech supposedly tries a few times but the radio will not permit them to go to an "older" version of the software. He then supposedly takes it up to Chrysler for a resolution.
Last week I had not heard back from them. Two weeks had passed. I pushed the subject and the tech tells me that the only solution is to replace the radio. He supposedly orders the new radio. We set a date for this past Monday to bring the car to him because the radio is supposedly there. The car is there all day Monday and all of Tuesday. I just picked it up a few hours ago. Nothing done. No radio installed. The dealer tech is now saying that Chrysler has not "approved" the swap. I LOSE IT! I was under the impression the problem was going to be resolved. Instead I am told that nothing has been done to the car and that the car was simply there to get "information" off and "diagnose" the issue. WHAT?!?!?#%#@?!
Here is where I am at:
- Star Case number was opened May 1st. Over three weeks after I first noted the issue. Dealer's fault.
- Took the car back from the dealer. I'm not leaving the car for an indefinite period of time while they "figure it out".
- Called FCA customer support to complain to only be told that they cannot discuss the info on the Star Case with me. That it has to be with the dealer......... but wait........ I OWN THE CAR!
- FCA Customer service says that the radio is no longer under warranty and that I may be out the cost of the radio. HUH?!?!? Their software update screwed it up.
This is what I have found.....
- The software that is in the radio now is 17.11.17. This version is not available on the uConnect site for download. By definition, this was over the air downloaded to the car. How can I be responsible for a radio when the software they force fed me is the problem.
- According to the uConnect site, the correct, most up-to-date version for my car/VIN is 17.11.07. I can download it, but it will not install.
- The software cannot be rolled back. In other words, I can't simply install the correct version over the supposed newer version.
- This is clearly a very widespread issue. You can find many forum pages from Jeep, to RAM to Charger & Challenger forums discussing the same thing. Essentially, the 17.11.17 version was forced to the car and they lose all sorts of functionality.
- I have done the reset to factory defaults which is just a clean-up function to remove the old data like paired phones, contact lists, radio presets, etc. It will not take it back to a factory original software level.
- The radio has no way to reset/restore the software to the factory default. This is very disturbing. In short, if FCA sends out a bad software version, we cannot undo it. In other words, they could, in theory, download software that would make the radio/nav and other fucntions unuseable and then say that the solution is a radio replacement that we have to pay for! There is something very wrong with that.
- I have tried to activate the uConnect for the Viper. Can't do it. I had an account for a Charger Hellcat and closed it down. When I asked to "assign" the Viper to me, they said we need to call from the car itself. Great!.....except that the phone does not work in the car. In other words, I can't get a call from the car's cell phone to uConnect. The irony is awesome.
Here are the things that are wrong.
So sorry for the rant......
Anybody had this issue? Anybody suggest a solution?
