Seeking Help to Inspect a Viper for Purchase or a GTS for sale

    Hello everyone,

I've been interested in purchasing a 1996-2002 viper for a while now but they are few and far between in the Boston area where I'm from (especially interested in a 1996 or 1997 / blue & white stripes). Needless to say I've expanded my search nationwide and have located a bone stock, yellow 2002 Viper GTS in Clovis, New Mexico with a clean carfax and 39K miles on it. I've spoken to the owner and he claims the car is mint but hasn't done much service on the vehicle besides a routine oil change.

Obviously I don't feel comfortable buying this vehicle sight unseen so I was wondering if there was anyone who is mechanically knowledgeable on this forum that lives in a surrounding area that would be willing to go inspect this vehicle for me (of course I would compensate you for your time). I am mainly concerned that the clutch is prime for replacement and hoses are all original with the arid climate of New Mexico. The owner claims the tires are newer with approximately 70% tread remaining. Not sure about the brakes either.

He is asking $38K for the car which seams like a decent price but I'm guessing the clutch and hoses need replacement, fluids flushed, etc I could be looking at spending an additional $4-5K + shipping to Boston. Is there anyone out there that could give me some expert input? I am a novice when it comes to this car so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also interested if anyone if anyone here has a 1996-2002 viper for sales with less than 40K miles on it. I'm looking to spend upwards of $45K for the right car. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to joining this community once I get an actual VIN number!

    Best,

    - Todd

Welcome to the Viper arena, Todd.

I won' t bore you with the thousands of threads that I and many, many others have written of the NECESSARY procedures by which can sort used Vipers...noting, that if one skips steps on this pathway, one usually gets burned.

Most of us are willing to help anyone anytime as a happy Viper purchaser makes for a happy Viper community as well.

Feel free to call me for s quick discussion. 317-402-9013

P.S. I am just a fan of the hobby...and, NO...I have nothing for sale.

Todd, there are a few of us in the Boston Area that can assist as well. I own a 96 and have done a PPI for others. If you have any specific questions about the 96 especially (or other years), I can answer your questions as well..
PM me if you need assistance!

Great to speak with you, Todd. You are covering the bases quite well...especially with the contact you have made with Chuck Tator.

As you can see, the New England Viper posse is already helping...and, that kind of assistance may indeed net you a car closer to home.

Nonetheless, I would hope that a knowledgeable Viper person will step up to assist you in evaluating the NM Viper.

    Good hunting !!
