Carbon fiber weave issue on TA1 wing

Anyone else ever notice some odd carbon fiber weave on their rear wing? Where the wing meets the car, it looks like scratches, but on closer inspection, it's the carbon fiber weave under the clear coat that's a bit distorted. Pretty noticeable from the pics. Kind of odd. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Are you the original owner and was it factory installed?

I have not seen anything like it on mine.. also a 2017 GTC with TA1.0

It's very visible in the sunlight, at angles. Can't miss it. I'm curious if it's an anomaly or common. Wonder if I can get a replacement piece.

I've got a similar (albeit slightly less) version of you're talking about.

I appreciate the input fellas. I noticed this when I got the car months ago, but then winter set in and I didn't have the car out in the sunlight until recently. I've contacted my dealer (Roanoke) and will update this thread when I hear back

Curious to see what they do. Since this is a hand layed piece, they all will have a slightly different look. I do agree that whomever did ur piece might have been sniffing the glue a bit more than the rest.

This is helpful, thanks! Anyone else able to post pics from angles similar to what I posted up top? Trying to get a sense of whether I'm just being overly picky or if this is a legit concern. The muddled CF weave causing the artifacts showing in my pics only seems to be where the wing meets the metal facing the rear window. thanks again

Looks like they're going to warranty this. Is this a difficult piece to remove/reinstall? Should I be concerned with the dealers body shop undertaking this? thanks

Depends on the dealers body shop, It's held on by windshield adhesive, just need to be careful with removal and new install. I didn't have one so I paid a high end/quality body shop to do it, turned out great.

    Not with Roanoke doing it.

I WISH they could do it, but even though I purchased from them, they're far from me geographically.

I did notice some distortion in the weave in the center area of the wing on the outside edge. Seems like the cloth was kinked or something. So far is the only issue I have found. It does not show up as a different color. It only really shows up when you try and follow the wave. It is straight and then not so straight for a few inches and then returns to normal. I don't want some newb trying to take the wing off at the dealer and damaging something else.

Exactly. Wondering if I should leave well enough alone.

im sure the dealer body shop can handle it.. it likely has some instructions how to do it... take good pix of the area all around before you drop it off.. if by some small chance you have a problem have them fix it. or ship it iff to prefix if you want total piece of mind.

If you do get them to replace it, see if you can keep the one they remove, I'd be happy to take it!

Update and a question...I'm planning to have my new replacement (warranty) wing installed on my GTC....has anyone ever had to REMOVE a factory wing? The body shop mentioned that if the factory piece is put on with urethane, removing it could take some paint with it. That scares the crap out of me. The new piece is sitting at my dealership, and I have a high end body shop lined up (Cavallo in West Chester, PA), but i don't want to risk removing paint when the old wing is taken off. Thanks

Correct, I chipped up my wing with some rocks on Crown Rally. After looking at options the only way to restore it 100% is to remove it and re-clear it. If removed it most likely will remove paint. Is it 100%? No, But it's adhered like other various body parts with urethane and even with proper heat applied it can/will pull paint. In-fact after discussing this he also said that if this was insurance related to a broken wing only, he would have to bill out/estimate to repaint the hatch and blend because most likely the paint will pull up from outside of underneath the wing as well now.

tl;dr - you could get lucky, you may not. Best case scenario is it only pulls paint from under the spoiler.
