Looking at buying a garage queen any advice 2000 RT

    Hi,

I know there are hundreds of threads out there and I've combed through a lot of them, and watched a ton of YouTube videos... But also wanted to get some additional feedback from you guys if you've been in my shoes before.

I'm looking at a 2000 RT/10 with less than 10k miles. It's a 2 owner car, with the 2nd owner having ownership since 2001. I plan to drive it every day the sun is shining... Other than the oil, rest of fluids haven't been changed in years, I know that, so I would need to get those changed right away. Tires are original, so I would need to replace those. I would imagine that most of the rubber pieces would need to be changed as well? The car has no modifications and looks mint. Based on that I'd need to buy new tires, change all fluids, perhaps change out other old components, would you agree that it would be reasonable for me to expect the seller to lower his asking price? Is there anything else I should consider when purchasing such a low mileage Viper that I plan to drive a lot? I've read these cars are easy to work on and super reliable.

    Thank you!

Bought my 2000 gts with 6000 miles and was expecting some issues because the car had sat for a while..have driven the car for three years now and it drives and looks like a brand new car..no leaks or issues at all.i did change the spark plugs and wires when i first got the car..buying a low milage car was the right choise for me...new tires is a must!

Great to hear, thank you! Did you change the plugs and wires yourself?

Sounds like you have it all pretty much covered. I would not expect the seller to lower the price just because of the items you mentioned. Unfortunately.

Hi everyone, I've been looking at buying a summer car, and I think the gen 2 Vipers are a lot a car for the current prices. I see the note above about new tires a must, I've read in other places that new tires for a gen 2 viper may not be easy to get. Is this true? Also does anyone know if I ran into a worse case scenario and needed motor work, how much is a typical motor rebuild on a gen 2?

Depends on which year Gen II you get.
    1996/97 Vipers hat 17" wheels
Tires are available but they make them in batches.

    1998 to 2002 vipers had 18" wheels.
Tires are easier to get hold of.
JonB a Trusted Viper vendor @ prats rack always has great deals on tires.
As for motor work.....well that depends how dirty you want your hands to get? And also weather you are looking for a stock or modified motor.
General servicing is dirt cheap compared to other supercars. That's the beauty of viper ownership.
Early cars had a 8 ltr oil pan. Later gen IIs had a 10 ltr oil pan. Change fluids regularly and all should be good for many years.

You said you were looking at a 2000 model, that will have the 10 ltr oil pan and 18" wheels so tires should be no problem.
I run Toyo R888 proxys on my car, its a R compound street track tire, brilliant in the dry.
