    Am I over reacting

Would you be pissed if you ordered this:

    Untitled.jpg

And received a box of pipes that required 3 clamps to make it whole per side? This means I will now have 4 total clamps holding slip joints in the side sills alone. The product states no welding, which technically clamps are not welding, but it also shows a welded pipe in the picture. The whole point of ordering this was to prevent having to go to an exhaust shop to have things properly installed. I already have ROE High Flow cats on the car, which at least the cat was welded in, and I bought this as it's driving me nuts having that many potential leaks.

Before you say it, no, I can't weld and I don't have any shops around here that I trust with my car thus why i was willing to eat $700 to just have a bolt in part I could do myself....

On one hand, I know just how you feel. When something that is expected to bolt in and be perfect, especially for the price, turns out to be complicated AF or require tons more work, it sucks.

On the other hand, clamps allow a boatload more tweaking than a pre-welded pipe. I don't have much experience with Vipers, but from what I understand, they are all slightly different. That 3mm means a lot when things don't line up.

Can you just use the clamps to position it just how you like it, and then weld it later? Just because you don't know a local place now doesn't mean you won't discover one through the community.

Problem is if I wanted to take the car to a shop I would have just kept my Roe high flow kit. It clamps in but at least the cat is welded to the straight pipe. This kit the cat isn't even welded to the straight pipe.

I also understand the hand built part but the factory cat pipes are all the same so this part shouldn't be hard to mirror, especially at 700 with shipping.

Yes that add is totally misleading, as it clearly states you reuse your factory clamps. The implication is that you would reuse the OEM v-band connector and the clamp from the catalyst exit to muffler. Additionally the claim that the hiflow catalyst is more “efficient” than the factory assembly is likely fraudulent. I’ll bet money on that one.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be "more efficient" either. Should flow better but their's no way it would clean the air better. The kit came with a different cat than what is in the picture. Not a bad thing though as the one that came in the kit is a little bit bigger and also has a heat shield on it.

Really a shame as it does look to be a nice kit. Just wish it was advertised as a clamp together kit. I sent a message to the company to look at options as I'm not interested in eating the cost to get it welded up properly nor am I interested in paying a restocking fee of 25% and having to eat shipping both ways (their return policy).

Here is a picture of what the cat looks like with the rest of the drivers side.

My wife had a good idea that I could just take the cat pipes to a shop to have welded and just use the clamps at the 90 degree section. Still not what I wanted but could be doable as I just don't want to have any exhaust leaks. The clamp in front of the cat makes me nervous as a leak their can kill a cat fast.

I have an exhaust shop locally but they are incompetent in working on cars thus why I said their isn't a shop locally I would trust. You'd think they would be able to at least make a straight weld though.

She's so smart it makes you wonder why she married me....

That exhaust system looks like crap compared to the picture. Would not be happy. Get your money back!

I think I would be a tad pissed off too. Hope you figure it out.

Lou Belanger called me today to talk about the exhaust. I advised of my concerns with having the slip fit and he agreed that he doesn't like them either but that he can't make them one piece since our cars are all slightly different. It makes sense. He also agreed that the picture of what was being offered isn't accurate. Was a good conversation and he sounded like a nice guy (I didn't buy the kit from him it was through a vendor). He assured me though that these will not leak because of the way he builds the kit and how precise the connectors are.

It doesn't sound like the vendor is interested in offering a rebate on the product but a return may be an option. Going to think it over and go from there. I like these cats better and the fact it does away with the flex pipe and is 3 inch pipe from the header to the reducer for the catback so I'd really like to use the kit and just sell my basically new Roe Kit. Right now, I'm still just irritated by the principle so I need to figure out if it's worth the principle to return the kit or not.
