Battery and Cables interfere with cover Should be side post on 2004

Looks like previous owner adapted a top post battery and boat style wing nuts. Per factory parts book the cables look like side mount terminals which makes sense.
Funny thing is the cables look factory but probably removed all the side post hardware.

Any thoughts? The lid is mashed down and the only thing that prevents a direct short is a red plastic cap on the pos+ terminal.

    Thanks,

I hate to keep asking questions but am real new and like stuff to be right. All help and calls thus far are truly appreciated.

I'm little confused by your post? Your viper was designed to use Top Posts.

Here's a picture I saw on line and this is how yours came from Dodge (note, the cover is removed)

My '08 is uses top post cables/connections. The stock battery cover is known to warp though, and yes, there is not much clearance between it and the terminals. FWIW, I now run Doug Shelby's battery cover, which is a much nicer piece, and takes all of about 10 seconds to remove.

Perfect thanks Where you see the nut on top connecting the cable to the post terminal... Mine has a marine style boat terminal with a tall wing nut pictured here which interfere with the box lid.

So All I need is a pair of these terminals like you show to connect my cables which will solve my issue.

In fact mine is quite bare and lacks the battery box . I can see my battery through the rear bumper. It is secure though.

They are all that way...it is just a tray that it sits in, so yes, you can definitely see it through the rear bumper.

As for the terminal, if I had to guess, the original probably was corroded. Mine had a decent amount of gunk on it, but I was able to clean it up. The OEM batteries were not the best.

Well stated, Steve. The potential for a short and/or fire is not to be underestimated...especially as the cars age. It pays to inspect the red cover on the positive terminal at least annually. Also, there may be a higher risk in Vipers that have suffered rear end damage. I know of a couple of such cases. Sadly, with the fastener arrangement on a stock car's battery cover, it is not easy to get to the battery emergently. The positive terminal can be reached from below if necessary... if fire is not an issue.

Forum sponsor Doug Shelby Engineering produces a great alternative that solves the access issue with his quick release battery cover which eliminates the stock Torx fasteners that can take several minutes to remove even if one has the correct tools.

I recently swapped in a DieHard Gold JC-34 795 CCA (cold cranking amps) Battery Dimensions: 10.93” long x 7.8” tall.
    Fit perfectly.

    Terminals on the top etc..
Added some Mastic Tape to the under side of the battery cover.. over the negative terminal.

Probably should put it over the positive side of the battery. $.02

The red plastic cover over the +Terminal is in good shape. But thanks, why not!
