    The Boat Thread

Was talking to MI Viper about boats and figured may as well start a thread with something that many other gear heads enjoy.

Plus it can really tie in since one of the best engines are made by Ilmor...a V10 Viper based engine that they are really squeezing some very good and reliable (NA) horsepower out of. 725 hp / 649 ft lbs makes it the most powerful NA marine engine available

After all, when it comes to straight pipes right at the water line, bikinis, few speed limits, cops or lanes to stay with in.....boating is just a great way to blow off some steam...or just kick back. Water is a good thing

So show us what you have that floats.....

I run a 05, 32' Sunsation Dominator. Twin 496 HO's (425 hp ea). I'm a lake boater but Lake Powell is only 2 hours away and it has 3000 miles of shore line, so definitely enough water to burn some fuel. That's at 0.9 MPG by the way.

I love Donzis. I have a Grady White fishing boat but if I had a second non fishing boat it would be a Donzi

388 Looks in nice shape. I don't know much about the Hustlers. How's the cabin, or lack there of? Have you done the 250 hr service on the 600 heads? That's what is getting done to my 525s over this long winter.

    Rob,
The cabin is HUGE compared to most, we looked at a Donzi 38 ZR before the we bought the 388, and it was really short height, I couldn't sit up in the lounge seats. Wife said NO! I only have 130 hours on the 388, so it's still running strong, started her this past weekend, on the hose, try to run her 1 a month if I don't splash her....

    MI,

Nice shots...the Hustler is a great looking boat

The Mystic is amazing (looks close to a SSG green). Does that come with an open cabin as well ? Did they put 700's in that or are the new Merc big turbos in it ?

Have a great time at the Miami show. Hope you feel a bit guilty as the rest of the country is in a deep freeze !!

    Matt,
This a SBI Race boat, and will have a pair of 1600HP Stotler Blower motors in it... Here's pic of a pleasure C5000, w/ 1800HP Turbines in it. The 1 that we were setting up at the boat show last night here in the second pic, (my Ford P/S sitting next to it) has 1350 Mercs in it.
    Thanks,
    Dean

Even if I could afford a boat, I most likely couldn't afford the fuel or repairs lol.

With the boats pictured above, its more like BOATT......Bring Out Another Ten Thousand...

I'd love to have any of the above pictured toys. That said, growing up on the coast of Louisiana on the water, hopping on the boat was about 100 feet from the back door of the house and going. Since moving to the midwest, I just can't get into the hassle of dealing with trailering even the Sea-Doo's anywhere. What should be 4-5 hrs of fun turns into a whole weekend of preparation...call me lazy or spoiled, but it isn't worth it to me. Now, If I were to move back to waterfront property, especially with unlimited virgin rivers plus lakes and the Gulf, then game on!

So true!!!. that's just another of many, many reasons I love our Snake, compared to our boats, it's CHEAP to own and operate. And my wife, if she had it her way, we would sell 2of 3 three boats, (Just keep the ski boat) and buy a Gen V!

05 Formula Fastech 353, Merc Racing 525s with Merc Racing ITS extension boxes, XR drives and 5 blade Maximus props. Engines are a total of aprox 1,100hp (1,050hp at the props) and runs on 87 octane. If I had to choose between the boat and the Viper....I wouldn't be without a boat. We live on the water, it's an easy choice.

Thank you very much. I looked at the Sunnys, I like the boats and the build quality but the right one never came up and I looked for 1 1/2 yrs. I agree on the 525s, I think they are the best all around power that Merc Race makes. Took awhile to find the right boat but couldn't be happier to have a fridge, a/c, electric footrests/seats and still get 84 MPH for a decent price.
You would have a ton of fun on Lake Erie on one of the Poker Runs with that Sunny. How does your boat fly? Nice, flat, and predictable? Bulletproof 496 H.O.'s can't beat that.

I really like the Sunsation. Great, fast hull. Doesn't have all the creature comforts you got in the Fastech, but big enough underneath to get away.

You going to think its funny but at Lake Powell, we look for the tour Ferries. They throw a great wake. Just sneak up on them from behind and then launch....incredible feeling to be airborne with 6500 lbs underneath you (Fastech probably more like 8500 isn't it?). Gives the people on the ferry something to talk about to. Boat does fly well...real flat. I am always amazed how smooth it lands.

Lake Erie sounds good...but what a haul to get there. It would take me 3 days

Nice aerial shoots of your boat by the way.

It's about getting out there and enjoying the water. Someone will always have something bigger, better, faster, etc. Boating is an escape and that is hard to put a price on... well at $5.75/gallon marine non-ethanol, 149 gallons, when running hard burning 85 GPH I guess a price can be put on it! I started out with something easy to handle and work on then moved up from there.

Thanks bud. I love the boat, We wanted something we could throw 4-5 girls and a couple buddies and go out and have a good time. We boat out in Clear Lake Texas which is known to have some big players with SICK boats. The boat will do around 60-65mph which is more than enough for what I want it for.

The Tow vehicle gulps (vs drinking or sipping lol) fuel when towing as it has a magnuson blower on it.
