    Question GEN 1 Tuning Solutions

    Hey everyone,

    I've searched around on a few forums including here and i'm coming up short with options for tuning on Gen 1 Vipers. I'm currently looking to make a purchase of a Gen 1 and I would like to add a few mods to it over time and eventually i'll need to cross the bridge of being able to tune the car more than likely.

    I'm running into the issue that I cant seem to find much info about tuning solutions for the Gen 1 Vipers. I've only see the paxton setup which uses i believe an FMU and split second piggyback device which I hear is not the best. I've personally used a split second product on a car in the past and it was less than desirable and not the best so i can easily see truth to this statement myself from my own experience.

    I've also seen reference to the VEC2/3 But it doesn't seem that this is made anymore? Additionally i've seen mention of the Megasquirt 3 Ecu, however...I don't know that I'd like something I need to heavily piece together or hack into stock wiring harnesses much. I would ideally like something that is plug and play with the stock harness IF possible.

    So.. with this being said, what is out there for the GEN1 Vipers for re-maping fuel and timing tables? Did i miss anything or does that about cover it for available options?

    When I did the heads and cam on my old Gen1 I had Dan Cragin reprogram my stock pcm. It made 500 rwhp after. His email address is specialityperformanceteam.com.

    Another option is to get a Vec 2 box. Wiring kits are available from Roeracing.com. it is probably the best Gen 1 solution without going with a standalone.

    We do offer custom tuning for the Gen 1 SBEC engine controller. 200hp gains can be found with, heads, 1.7 Rockers, cam (708 or bigger), Gen 2 injectors, headers,CAI and tune.

    We developed the tuning software years ago and believe we are the only shop that currently supports Gen 1 tuning.

    I've got a nice set of ported G1 Heads sitting at Dan's shop. Dan is one of the very few that can tune the G1 ECU.

    PM if interested, thanks Mike

    Dan;

    Does the 96 RT/10 fall under ODB-1, GEN I or ODB-II, GENII? Thinking I will need a bit of a refresh to my 96' RT but have to stay 100% emissions compliant. May give you a call over the holidays in a dreaming moment.

    Your Gen 1.5 is a blessing because it falls under the OBD II and you should be able to use the SCT.

    The 1996RT/10 uses the later type JTEC controller. It can be easily tuned with SCT software.
