    Gen 2 Muffler Delete

Looking for some exhaust sound from my stock 1998 RT/10. I am considering removing the mufflers located under the side sills and replacing them with a straight pipe. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so how does it sound. I plan to leave cats and rear muffler as is.

The muffler is in the back with the twin pipes. You have cats, resonators in the side sills. I had my muffler removed long time ago and replaced it with two free flow s/s Magnaflows. it made a slight improvement in the sound department. I've planned to remove the cats while ago but put it off. Now, I was forced to remove them after cat failure that burned the paint off of the left side sill. I cut both cats out and just a 2' pipe between the downpipe and resonator. Have a great sound now even with the resonators still in place. I wouldn't recommend removing the resonators, you may not like it if you do. The rear O2 sensors don't seem to be affected, no service light on. Re-checked my STFT and LTFT, thinking maybe I had way too rich condition, causing my cat failure. All seem to be in range now, near '0' readings with very slight fluctuations.

Thanks for the advice. I will leave the side sill resonators in place and as others have suggested I'll do a rear muffler delete.

When my 2000 GTS was new, I did the Snake Oyl rear delete. Made a nice difference from what I thought was a "too quiet" GTS. It's still on the car.

When I got my '96 RT almost 10 years ago, it had the rear muffler deleted. Way too loud...absolutely unpleasant. That's when I found that that the rear exhaust '96 Res don't have the side sill mufflers....just the cats. I know some guys like it loud...but it was too much for me with no mufflers at all.

I took mine off, replaced them with Borla Stingers, removed my cats and put an X-pipe in place of the rear muffler under the trunk

One guy I know removed his rear muffler and put a cross pipe in. It sounds pretty good. Not too loud, but much better than the stock sound.

Rear muffler delete and replace with x-pipe helps the tone nicely. Upgrade to some HF cats for a bit more hp and volume. If you drop the resonators completely, your hearing will suffer real damage.

Don't fully delete everything. It sounds absolutely horrendous. My buddy has his fully straight piped. No cats, res, or muffler and the sound it makes when he decels is brutal.

This is what I did. It's loud but not obnoxious. And the side sills are so much cooler!!

Don't forget the drone. Many mods sound better initially then the drone at certain RPM's begins to annoy. Corsa seems to be the only ones that keep that under control.

I removed the resonators and cats. I put Borla Stingers in place of the stock resonators. Removed the muffler out back and put a X-pipe there. It's loud but aggressive and not raspy. A little drone but nothing bad overall

I got M&M headers and it's 3" all the way to the magnaflo resonators at the back. I get some drone right around the 2k RPM mark, but nowhere else.

I removed my cats with straight pipes from Roe and still have my resonators and replaced my rear muffler with an x pipe. I love the sound.
