Gen 1 Trunk Mount CD player

Was there ever an optional CD stacker available for the Gen 1 cars? If so does anyone have any pictures they can share? I am tired of listening to am/fm and not courageous enough to play a cassette. Car has basically sat in a warehouse since 1996 and never used.

CD changer was a dealer installed option, or as we did took it to a stereo install shop. 25 years later I somewhat doubt new changers would be available but I am sure they could come up with something. Or of course replace the head unit with something a bit more modern. That Harman Kardon unit was out of date when the car was new.

Thanks for reply - with so few miles on the car I would like to keep it looking as original as possible. When it gets more miles on it I will definitely update the whole audio side...

I had one in my former '94, and have one in my current '96 RT. I'd only add that there are cable(s) that need to be run from the head unit to the trunk for the changer. The car is not prewired for the changer. I'd have to find it, but I think I bought an extra on eBay as some point, figuring it's good to have a back-up. I don't recall if it came with he cables...but if it did I could at least provide some info on how many and what type of cable so tiaganon would know if they "have it all" before starting an install.

While the sound system isn't great, I'm fine with using the CD changer. Yeah, it's yestertech, but I'm not changing the factory head unit. Can't hear the radio worth a darn in a car with no roof or windows anyhow....

As soon as I can, I'll dig it out. I was helping a friend with a '39 Plymouth project and need to shuffle that stuff around to get at the Viper goodies. Stay tuned.

Managed to dig out the spare CD changer. I known it the changer works with the wiring, etc currently in the car, although I don’t recall the box shown the picture from when I installed my first one in my former ‘94. (My ‘96 already had the changer when I got it.)

I do remember the big DIN cable, but don’t remember the details of the install.

Hope the pic helps..the actual changer is not on the pic.
