Gen 3 amp 4 exhaust manifold differences

My Viper came with Roe racing cats w/ Belanger cat back, and the guy I bought it from told me that it has gen 4 headers. They weren't something he put on, and he said the car was stock when he purchased it(he was the 2nd owner). He said he first realized something was off when they went to put the exhaust on and the length was off. I have no reason not to trust the previous owner, he's a pretty good guy.

My question is, is there a way to tell the difference between the different headers? I have zero problems with the car, it's just bugging me not being able to find any info on this.

As I understand, Gen 3/4 exhaust manifolds and headers are not compatible with each other...unless you have Gen 4 heads on your car. Post a photo of your engine/manifolds.

You absolutely have Gen 3 exhaust manifolds, but more likely have the Gen 4 catback. They can be easily put on the Gen 3 for better sound/performance and lots less heat.

I'll post a photo when I get home from work, but the heads are the original '03 heads as far as I know. Guess I'll need to pull the sill off some weekend and have a look.

Haven't researched this yet, but would putting an aftermarket gen 4 catback on a gen 3 involve cutting or adding a small amount of pipe to the exhaust like he mentioned??

And SNKEBIT, of course!! It's something I want to do, but have to finish some other "more important" things right now. Ugh

What he said. Different heads so they would not fit. Gen 4 cats and mufflers would work for sure.

Will adding the M&M headers to a Gen 3 see good performance gains?
