Seeing higher oil pressure after putting 15W50 Mobill 1 oil in my 14 GTS

Is that normal?

Earlier tonight I did an oil change & track pad swap as I have a track day Friday & Sunday. This is my 1st time going with the heavier weight oil.
I went out for a drive and I noticed the oil pressure at idle was 45-46 (warmed up) and cruising at 62mph in 6th gear (cruise control on) the oil pressure was a steady 82-83. It was not the high before with the Penzoil 0w40 stock weight oil.

Is this just due to the heavier oil in there now?

Dick Winkles recommended 15-50w for the gen 2s if you were tracking the car, I changed from 0-40w to 15-50w and also noticed better oil pressure. You should let the engine warm up a bit first though before giving it full beans

Running Pennzoil 0w-40, definitely looks higher than mine.

thicker oil will always create more pressure than thinner oil, to be expected

I use 15w50 in my SRT10 and I see the same thing. Also really quiets down the valve train.

Why shouldn't we all just be using 15W-40 then?

mpg ratings, they also have to specify an oil that will work where ever the cars maybe sold, even the cold north and hot south. Imagine trying to start a car in a northern winter with 15W. All these manufacturers are starting to go with 0W-20 to juice the mpg numbers, but I run 5W-30 since we wont get freezes in Houston

I love the 15w50, as per previously noted the valvetrain is quieter and oil pressure is more stable. I havnt noticed a ''higher'' pressure but no more super low swings down to 30 psi at idle anymore. Another thing i noticed is the exhaust makes more of a putt putt sound. And also agree that you should only run in your street car if youre in the southern climates. 15w50 all day for me from now on.

I want to run 15w50 in the Viper too. Unfortunately i have like 45 quarts of 0w40 from the Autozone sale.... gotta put some miles on teh car i guess lol

So it looks like 15w50 for me then too in South Florida.

Now, second question. Weren't we all raised to break in our engines on conventional oil and then transition to synthetic only after the initial wear period (say 5k-10k miles)?

Given that new engines seem to come factory filled with synthetic, it seems that we cannot go backwards (at least that I also what I learned from long ago).

A couple of debunked myths there, switching from syn to con or vise versa has no ill effects. Syn factory fill is very common these days, my wifes 4 cyl 200c is Syn filled from factory.
