    Bent trunk

    Hi guys,

I've got a gap now between trunk and rear fender, only on passenger side. I forgot to remove the rod before trying to close the trunk one time and now I can see maybe a 1/4 inch gap. Don't have any picture at the moment, did it happen to any of you? Hopefully it won't be too hard of a fix.

    Thanks!

Find out what's bent and bend it back.

Yes, 1994 RT/10. The rod that keeps the trunk open on passenger side.

I don't think so, because when the trunk is closed, I can see the gap. Nothing to do with the rod.

    OK Got it, thanks.

This guy has a spare trunk lid for sale and may also have a hinge? You can also see in the pictures that the hinge bolts are fitted into the trunk, you may want to check that you have not snapped or cracked the glassfibre area where the bolts are moulded into the trunk lid.

Less weight Similar holes on the other side too, may have had a rack or spoiler of some sort on the trunk lid.

I would take the trunk lid off and check that the bolts look to be in the same position either side of the trunk, the bolts on one side may be slightly tilted or at a different angle. If the bolts look identical either side then the next step would be to look at the Hinges.

OK, as I can see there doesn't seem to be many adjustments for that trunk. Between the bumper and the trunk, the gap is much bigger on the passenger side. For the trunk/fender, the trunk on passenger side is higher. Driver's side looks normal. Can't see anything obvious on the hinge. I guess I will order a new hinge at the dealership...

This may be stupid...but if the trunk by the hinges at ok, maybe adjust the stoppers at the latch side of the trunk? Don't they work to keep the trunk aligned for height when closed?

Remove both hinges, compare them side by side for height and see if you can see anything twisted, it may be that things just need a little alignment.
If one hinge looks higher than the other you may have slightly twisted it.
With the kind of fastenings used on the hood bolts and nuts, it may be that just loosening off the nuts and pushing down on the hood will make it all good again

OK, I did the job today. Roughly a 1h, 2-men job. I definitely had a gap on the passenger side. Hinges provide all kind of adjustments. There was also 5 chims on one side, 6 chims on the other side. It is OEM. Hinge is definitely bent but I was able to adjust it and now it is perfect at every angles.

    Easy job.
