    Need PayPal advice quickly

An individual through this site reached out to me about my wheels. They have no posts. He wanted to do a bank transfer, which I declined and requested he use PayPal. About half the money has showed up in my PayPal account. I have not yet transferred the money from PayPal to my account.

My question is, are there any current or previous scams that work like this? I'm a little ignorant when it comes to PayPal, so I want to make sure that I am not a victim of the obvious. I will not ship the wheels until after ALL the money clears at my bank. Any recommendations?

I'd ask for the final payment to make the deal complete. Then I would video/photograph you carefully packing the wheels, then send them on their way.

I know PayPal well and the scams from my businesses, etc. Yes ask for final payment. If he asks for a refund though do not refund until the product is back in your hands. Hopefully he is OK. Contact me if you want...Scott

I know he is sending you money but here is good data for all...If you send money via "Friends and Family" you have absolutely no recourse to collect any monies due you if the deal goes south. If you send regular way you have full PayPal protection if the goods never arrive. There is then a 3% fee that way but well worth it you'll sleep better! You can always call PayPal via your PayPal account and talk to a rep and ask them advice in this situation.

I wonder if you can contact anyone at the shipping company and have them verify everything?

Then you can just address the package to the person at the shipping company, then the buyer won't have recourse with you, as you completed your end of the deal once it arrived at the shipping company.

If you can confirm with someone at the shipping company, and they are a legit company, once the package is released to them, you're homefree.

Even if the shipping company's address is not the buyer's confirmed shipping address? Sorry to seem so ignorant on this topic.......but I guess that's the case.

I believe once the package has been signed for and inspected (by the shipping company), any recourse the buyer will have will be against the shipping company.

For example. When you purchase a vehicle sight unseen, the dealer/individual is responsible for it and it's condition until the shipping company receives it. Before receiving, the shipping company will make notes of any and all damage to cover their butts. Then the shipping company will transport it to you, the buyer. If upon receiving the car, it is not as it is described, and it wasn't noted...then it falls on the shipping company.

Anytime I have ever shipped Viper tires and wheels, I collected the money up front with a money draft and waited 5 days for it to clear .

I would make sure to get all the money in my paypal account first, and then ship the wheels wherever he wants.

Absolutely. Nothing will ship until the total amount moves from PayPal to my account.

Looking forward to hearing what you find out from the shipping company that will be in charge of shipping them overseas.

Buyer can change his normal shipping address. My customers do this often for various reasons. Just get your money in full, keep all emails or notes you should be fine. Like the person stated above if they do not receive the shipment it's against the shipping company at that address you did what was asked.

I am leary of the unconfirmed address situation. Would the notes contained in the PayPal transaction (in regards to shipping to a different address) not supersede shipping to the confirmed address?

I believe you can set up direct bank to bank transfers using PayPal

  20. #20
You can but the buyer needs to verify his bank account which will take a few days till he sees the few cent deposits paypal does. Then another 3-5 days after he sends the money for it to end up in sellers account. My debit card has a $1000 purchase limit unless I call prior.

My wife actually talked with someone from PayPal today and they said that I am NOT protected if I send the wheels to an address other than the confirmed address. Even if a different address is mentioned in the notes of the transaction itself. I have to assume if people do this, they are not concerned about getting scammed. With this being an oversea's transaction, I'm erring on the side of caution.

So, I have sent an email to the buyer telling him that he needs to go into his account and change the confirmed address to the address for the shipping company. If he refuses to do that, I have to assume something is not quite right.
