    ACR Wheels Painted or Powdercoat

My dealer scratched up one of my wheels, despite assuring me they wouldn't. Wondering if anyone can say whether the factory wheels are painted or powdercoat? I'm trying to make sure they repair it perfectly, and so far haven't had any luck. The sheen is slightly different. Thanks.

I am pretty sure they are painted.

Painted. Powdercoating isn't as crisp on the edges because it is a baked on process.

Makes sense. That explains why there is a slight textured finish as opposed to the perfectly smooth factory finish.

Don't ask Dodge the paint code. They say ask the dealer. The dealer says ask Dodge They literally have no clue what color their wheels are!
That was what I found out trying to get touch up paint for my wheels.

My dealer told me they would just have to match another wheel because there isn't a paint code. At this point I know it likely won't be correct, but I'll let them try, then hopefully end up with a new wheel. So frustrating. The car was perfect until I let them touch the wheel. The powdercoat they did would look fine to most people, but it's just different enough to bother me.

Tell them to powdercoat them all bronze chrome. Google it for examples in different light. So sick on white cars. I have it...

    ACR Wheels Painted or Powdercoat

My black Sidewinder IIs are powdercoated from the factory. There are bare spots on the inside of each wheel where the electrodes were attached.

You said ACR wheels though. Powdercoating is a more durable finish, I'd assume, considering how much abuse wheels put up with.

Maybe look for electrode marks inside?

    Correct, SWII are definitely PC.

I'd take all 4 wheels somewhere to have them powdercoated anyway. New color, same color, whatever. Holds up better in my opinion.

Just have them get you a new wheel...problem solved.

Apparently it's expensive and they're not interested. I'll just keep pressing the issue until that's the only solution. It's the right answer on a $150K car, but it is a Dodge dealer we're talking about.

A new wheel would be the only way I would be leaving that dealer.

    X2 on this^

They damage the wheel and say it's too expensive to replace with a new wheel!? Well guess what... that's the only way to guarantee a matching finish and frankly the right way for Dodge to fix their mistake.

How bad is the damage? If it is cosmetic, any good wheel repair shop can probably fix it for under $100. I'm sure the dealer won't argue about a price that low.

That's exactly what they used. They hired a wheel repair shop, and the wheel repair shop powder coated it a similar black. Now the dealer is saying their onsite body shop is going to paint it. But I'm really at the point where I don't think it's my responsibility to waste any more of my time running around town fixing their mistake. I've been trying to not be unreasonable, but I think I'll need to have a discussion with the service manager.

And the damage was just cosmetic on the lip from damage during tire installation.

Oh boy, it sounds like they turned it into a mountain from a mole hill. In hindsight, I would have just taken it to your trusted shop and billed the dealer or just have the dealer give you a $100 for the damage. But too late for that.

Actually, a lot of dealers (and even other installers) don't want to deal with Viper wheels because they are so wide, that they have a really tough time mounting tires without putting a lot of manual torque on the rim. A lot of dealers have lost money mounting tires.

Quick update. I appreciate all your input. The dealer did the right thing and ordered a new wheel after I expressed my concerns. I will update once it's received and installed undamaged, but it appears they are fixing their mistake. Seems obvious, but these days it's refreshing to see somebody take responsibility without a fight.

Holy crap, that looks awesome! I love my SWIIs in the Hyper Black but that looks awesome!

I don't know if it is the light or the wheels or what but your paint looks like it has pearl in it?

I wouldn't let them install it. I'd take the wheel to high end wheel shop with a touchless tire machine. It might cost $20, you can have them reimburse you or eat the cost but I would not let them do the install.
