    Laser on Merritt Parkway?

Not sure how many of us use the Merritt Parkway near the NY/CT border, but FYI- something I haven't seen in the last 13 months has happened twice in the last three days now... CT trooper on the Merritt Parkway camping out with laser.

The rest area on the border of Greenwich and Rye Brook is being rebuilt, and there he sits while it's still closed to the public. This is on the north/eastbound side.

... of course my commute is so tame that I'm not going almost to ABS every time I see that

Yes. They also park on overpasses on the Merritt and aim at cars coming their way with a trooper waiting to pull them over. Ask me how I know this? I just finished paying $700 to get rid of a $300 speeding ticket that was measured by laser. Not fun.

So this is laser, not radar? That's new to me. Thanks for the tip.

Yep, Laser. They started that in 2012 in CT. And it doesn't set off nearby laser detectors either. Perhaps the most enjoyable or surprising part of the experience was being pulled over by a ford fusion state police vehicle. I felt part of my masculinity shrink when that happened. It would've been even more comical if it was a Prius.

haha yeah now they're sporting the new Taurus. ...and I had heard about that practice further up, but I drive from NY to Norwalk every single day and haven't seen it at all in over a year down here.
and you're welcome City - hope to see you and that new Jeep soon!

Well, that info will severely limit my use of the Merritt from now on. And frankly, I don't think your masculinity is in jeopardy. Just sayin....

Unfortunately, the new jeep has a tendency to act far more spirited (all on it own mind you) than the prior more standard fare Infiniti. The family casual drives are now Viperesque. Might have to look into a second detector ... maybe a battery powered one.

We used to have a member in CT (Jake?) who ran a car audio shop. He specialized in laser detectors. He installed a laser jamming system on his Gen1. When turned it, the laser gun would read "malfunction" or something to that affect. He would drive back and forth the area to mess with the trooper. I wonder whatever happened to him. I have to seek him out.

I didn't think they gave out tickets on that road. Every time I drove it seemed cars were doing at least 30 over. Never saw a car pulled over. Next time I drive that I will slow down for sure.

Going to CT next week, but will not be on the Merritt thankfully.

laser is instant so it doesn't take the average of 3 readings like Radar. Its a light beam so when you read him he is reading you. Radar detectors don't work so well unless you get lucky and you pick up something from a car in front.
Most Laser jammers are bull___t too

I-84, I-91, I-691 has undercover and regular speed traps. They've been using blacked-out and unmarked Dodge Chargers on those highways. They're particularly fond of the I-84 area between Waterbury and Danbury.

Watch out for that laser. I was looking into laser jammers 6 years ago and they were kinda hit or miss on functionality. I never pursued buying them, because I don't speed much. I am, however, a self proclaimed gadget geek and the thought of jamming laser guns was appealing haha. I wonder if they ever got the kinks worked out of those jammers.

Drive with your headlights on high beam during daytime. The light reduces the effective range of the Lidar.

On laser jammers we had a local about 6 years ago with them installed on his Gen1. He would drive by speed traps with it doing the speed limit. Then he would pass again on going above the speed limit. So the officer would get a reading of say "57mph", "Malfunction", "60mph", "Malfunction". LOL. That was then but he's disappeared. I think he did one too many "malfunction" passes and is serving time.

I got pulled over in my daily driver. It was laser and the trooper had a big fat grin on his face. But I love the scam going in CT. Get a ticket, fight by hiring a traffic lawyer, pay $xxx dollars to the lawyer. Laywer gets ticket nolled. Pay a charitable donation of $200 to the Court Clerk. All is well. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I asked where the charitable donation goes towards...the court. Yes, I know don't speed. But that's not the point.

The Fusion cop cars are everywhere now, our city had someone pulled over with one yesterday.

I've seen it. I use the WAZ app, its good for things like that if another wazer sees it and reports it.

i do not see why a Lidar jammer would be illegal. There is no regulations on light emitting electronics. lidar is just light. Radar is radio waves and is regulated by the FCC.

Radar Jammer illegal - they would have to operate on a FCC frequency that they are not licensed to. The ones that say they are legal don't work at all.
Laser jammers are legal but most don’t work as advertised

The good ones do work, like the Antilaser Priority (ALP), Laser Interceptor (LI), Blinder HP-905, and Escort Laser ShifterPro (LSP).

Check rdforum.org and radarandlaserforum.com for more info.
