Millled heads and interference between intake manifold and thermostat housing

    Hey guys,
About wrapping up putting my car back together after getting the heads ported. They were also milled down a bit to bump compression. I ran into a small issue, where when trying to reinstall the intake manifold, it seems to be just barely hitting the top of the thermostat housing. Its very slight, but you can just tell and have difficulty getting the front bolts started. So I lifted the intake back up and pulled the thermostat housing. My plan was to machine a small amount off the bottom of the housing (maybe .050"?), it looks like you could stand to lose a bit of material and not mess up the thermostat gasket surface. Was just curious if others have ran into this as well, and if so what the usual fix was? Thanks

The only thing that comes to mind is ensuring the thermostat still fits and has full travel.

You should remove material from the intake where it contacts the thermostat housing. There is plenty of material on the intake and it will never be visible. This is what Greg Good had me do a few years ago.

^That would be a good solution also. I ended up taking .030" off the face of the thermostat housing. That seemed to be about as much as I felt comfortable with before it would start to interfere with the thermostat. That may be enough in itself, but I will also shave a bit off the top just for good measure.
