Such a great documentary, Russ, Bernie, Collin everybody that worked on it did such a great job of telling the whole story of the attempt.

I think my favorite interviews are from Dale Lomas of Bridge to Gantry because he's the one person that is so clued in to all of the record runs and attempts. His words always carried alot of weight with me when we were there.

So what happened to the Wrecked Viper? Do you have it on display at VE? Did Kumho want the tires off the car?

I saw the other week that the wrecked AC Cobra was at Barrett Jackson from the film Iron Man (where he fell through the roof crushing the car). Im wondering if you intended to fully restore the Viper or keep it whole as a museum piece? or sell it at auction?

How bad was the car all said and done? Is it restorable?

Both cars are sold and the 7:01 car is in fact being put back together. We have been working on it since it's return. I honestly wish that the new owner would have left it in it's crashed state but he wanted it working.

Well its interesting that despite a year having gone by since the ACR's Ring attempt, with a couple more factory sanctioned records, the ACR's lap time is still the only non factory sanctioned lap time in the top 10. And of course the only manual transmission car as well. That's saying a lot I think...

Replica with same decals as the actual ‘Ring attempt cars I guess.

Interesting Jon. Nice replica and it even comes with a DSE plaque of the Ring run.

Regardless, Russ post is cryptic and driving me nuts as to the meaning

Looks like the ZR1 time got released, 7:04. Respectable time. Makes me happy that an underpowered car with old technology and a UPS truck engine is quicker around a track favoring high power. But seriously, says a lot about what a fantastic car the Viper is.

It really doesn't though. Ring times don't say anything about feel. The Viper ACR has an incredibly direct feel, excellent steering, solid shifter, sharp throttle. The Ring time is a reflection of mechanical and aero grip and while amusing does nothing to convey the aspect I enjoy when driving my ACR.

Yup, these cars are the baddest NA cars on the planet. Everything else is force induction.

Do any of these times matter anymore with the advent of factory super cars going 15 seconds faster? Unless you're going to sub categorize every car like fastest yellow manual on Tuesday.....who really cares about being 9th place.

Unless your the fastest thing ever, there's always a subcategory ("street legal" or "factory production" or whatever).
