Nice! Certainly my choice for a street car to put down decent lap times in other than the ACR. Good luck with it!

The real question is - will the front tires on a Performante last more than 1 track day?

Because of this, he didn't know where the braking point was when entering the first turn at full speed.
That is correct. You can also see him messing with the buttons on the wheel in the video.

I doubt that it will come with Kumhos, so the answer is yes.

What really pisses me off is that you can NOT disable traction control completely while the car is moving. I must have gone on track like 5 times, only to realize I forgot to turn it off and to have to pit. I guarantee that this happened at least once to the team at the Nurburgring.

I used a label printer for the following; "turn camera/data on"

You can do the same, re turning traction off.

It's silly I suppose, but since I've done that label I've not forgotten a single time.

So, I didn't really want to read through 24 pages but, is there going to be more runs on the Ring? I know they went 7:03 on a quick, last minute window to get through the weather but haven't heard anything since. Thanks in advance.

ha, I need to do this. Once I forgot to turn on the camera/data and set the traction control. I even left A/C on one time, but it was crazy hot so I left it on even after I remembered.

Since Dom didn't stop to turn off TC, I assume the run was with stability on and traction control off?? Track setting?

my thoughts as well. It just looks terrible.

I read he had the car in Track mode, I would assume traction control is off. Hard for me to tell, I haven't driven my car in over a month (damn Monsoon season). Every time I start my car I put my seat belt on then hold the button for 5 seconds to disable everything. That's the routine.

I am pretty sure it's because they could not stand how ugly an R8 is.

The R8 isn't meant to be a hardcore track specialty. It is, and has always been marketed as an every day, comfortable, livable, yet capable supercar.

Now back to the stuff that really matters:

"We are going BACK to nurburgring"

    From Facebook post 5h ago:

Two things are official: our 7:03:45 for the very first (and only) lap at the ring, and 2) WE'RE GOING BACK THIS MONTH. Because of the generosity of some sponsors who have stepped up, and because of the Viper Nation's generosity on gofundme, we feel we have enough for the return. I'd like to thank Doug Seal of Willowbrook Chrysler in Canada, Dan Snyder Motorsports, Quaker Chemicals, Clay Robbins Motors, and our continual patron saint, KUMHO TIRES. Without Kumho, we wouldn't be here. Their generosity and support is stunning and I hope that you honor them by choosing their very excellent tires, whenever you can. You have no idea how supportive they have been. THANK YOU KUMHO. Stand by for details of our return. Here's my promise: a lap in the 6's.

    Yessssssss!!!

  15. #590
Of course a lap in the 6's was inevitable if they got proper time to setup and a good bit of laps in to dial it in..I just wasn't sure the return would definitely happen. So glad to hear it is now definite. Go Viper. Still think it will beat the 918 if they get it dialed in. A Huracan beating time may not happen unless they do a run using non stock rubber which would be pointless for a truthful bone stock run which the Viper is known for. Hope they at least match or beat the 918. Regardless of the outcome it will be in the top echelon of production cars to crack 6's.

One is more self made business people and the other do have a high % of trust fund brats. There are exceptions to both however. I prefer the self made people and completely despise the trust fund brats and people who flaunt their wealth.

I can tell you that owning and running a 275 employee international specialty services engineering firm for 15 years before it was acquired by a fortune 250 company 10 years ago, I worked my ass off for every bit of it. I know what work is to earn that wealth and the value of a dollar. Made out well on the sale and 10 years later am in the process of building one up again as a new company. I could have afforded the euro cars but did NOT like the majority of owners. Your posts just bring back vivid memories of why I don't lust over nor own a Lambo or Ferrari. Most were elitist, self absorbed, entitled POS.

But in reality, all I see is a know it all, rich guy, too rich to even spend a couple of hundred bucks on a club membership. Betcha bought the Viper ACR for pure investment. It really does sound like the car is not for your rich tastes. Go ahead, put your last word in, I am done on the back and forth with this. I will congratulate the Viper Team on a great documented effort no matter what it is. There will always be a faster car, always. But will stand by ANY manufacturers physically documented and witnessed (not video reviewed) effort.
Wow, you really jumped the shark on this one.
I think sweeping, general assumptions about how a particular group of car enthusiasts got their money is incredibly presumptuous. And it's just as presumptuous to generalize their demeanor or attitude.

A Subaru STI just did 6:57 around the ring.

Late last month Subaru announced that its track-only WRX STI Type RA NBR had set a new Nurburgring lap record (for a four-door sedan) of 6:57.5, and was promised then, the official video of that happening has been released. Remember, this wasn’t just any old WRX STI, but rather one that’s been stripped to its core, leaving only the bare essentials, along with a full roll cage. The 2.0-liter Boxer four was modified for a total output of over 600 hp. A top speed of 179 mph was achieved at the ‘Ring as well.

Let's not be ridiculous. It's a non-street legal race car that looks like a Subaru STI.
That would be like saying FCA can run a Comp Coupe and claim it's a "Viper".

Glad the return to the ring is confirmed. Sub 6:57 is achievable with that driver's tremendous skills. Just needed a few laps to get into the groove to set a better time. Good luck guys!!

And that whole one lap they got in the traction control was on.

They are at $193,836 of $259k goal raised by 519 people in 6 months... that is only $250 from 260 more people or $130 from 500 people!

  23. #598
Nevermind this is just a BTG lap not a full lap. But interesting.

exactly... I can attest to the R8 being a very comfortable car for longer trips, while the viper gets a little tiresome after a couple of hours. i do agree the gen2 R8s are less than to be desired in terms of looks, that's why i get a gen1 R8 facelift... best of both worlds! looks of the gen1 and the motor/trans of a huracan

there is word that a r8 gt will be coming out (somewhat equivalent of the performante, if one dares try to make a mapping) ... i'm sure that one will make it to the ring at some point.
