Yes, the limited Pcars go up, but many then come back down. 911R and 991.1 GT3 RS are examples.

It's almost as if there is an initial demand because everyone wants to be the first kid on the block to have the new toy.

And then the new model is announced, and they all drop the old toy like a bad habit and run for the new one.

Porsche has their target market figured out very well.

I've noticed the same. There is something about the first mile of the lap that must be very tight and require lots of gear changing (or maybe just better gear ratios) because the Viper seems to lose a lot of time right at the beginning vs. the other cars. A dual clutch would no doubt be a giant benefit in that section, but better gearing might also be necessary.

Why do you say 911R went down in price? Original MSRP was $185K and used ones are still selling for $400-$500K: http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/...porsche/911--r

Also, I don't think GT3 RS was ever "limited". Porsche certainly did not limit it to a certain # of cars. They built what their production capacity allowed. Official figures are not available, but consensus is that anywhere from 4,500 to as many as 6,000 GT3 RS cars were built worldwide. I personally saw many (at least 10 of them) at track days this season, but a few more at hard parking events. If anyone paid over MSRP for the GT3 RS it was because they were either not willing to wait or not willing to look around. If anyone could not get a GT3 RS it's either because they started shopping too late or wanted a bargain. I was offered one at MSRP in late 2016, with a bunch of options that pushed the MSRP to around $200K and passed on it because I knew my ACR is faster on the track.

So back to the Performante, how is it considered a legitimate ring time when Jalopnik reports that the tires were trofeo's specifically done for the ring time, but in the ignition episode i watched yesterday the car comes with corsa's on it?

My understanding is the Trofeo R’s are an option.

Some articles mention that the Trofeo R is available on the car. If the Trofeo R were available on the Viper ACR, then we might have had a very different outcome because then it would have been contest of downforce vs. dual-clutch. Doing the math on fast sections of the track, the ability to carry higher speeds into and through the turns would have overcome the advantage of the dual clutch accelerating down the straights. The problem is that we could not carry higher corner speeds than the non-aero cars.

Did Russ, Bernie VE Get any more funds to help with the cost of lost track time and damaged barriers?

I know Kumho supplied tires but it was their tire that caused the failure. Just wondering what the thoughts were from their side? Did Kumho offer help?

It would seem that acceleration trumps downforce at least on the Ring between the GT2 RS and the ACR. Just going off of Lance and Dom expectations of the ACR above the 7:01 lap time. They seemed to think the ACR had about 3-5 seconds more in it if the Kumho's could hold up. I'm not a track rat so not sure if the Trofeo R's would bring the ACR anywhere near the GT2 RS's 6:47 time but I doubt it. Even with the Trofeo R's the ACR cannot match the GT2's acceleration.

I'm pretty sure the GT2 RS will be a low 10, high 9@14x mph car and on top of that it goes around corners like a racecar. Both are pretty impressive machines but it will be hard to mess with the GT2 RS's level of acceleration, DCT, rear mounted engine that gives it amazing traction out of a turn etc. I think only a 9L ACR would have a chance with the GT2 RS and even then I think it will be close, track dependent.

Guys, thanks for asking about funds. At this point, unless there are some unexpected expenses, I think we are OK. I've paid The Ring for the damages to the fencing. Thank you to EVERYONE who contributed. The helmets are in the container being shipped from Germany to Houston. As soon as they arrive, I will start getting them out. The posters are being designed by an ad agency and are in the works. I'm sorry for the slow delivery of both, but it takes a while to organize and execute getting memorabilia sent to several hundred folks. Sometime around Christmas, there will be a documentary style youtube video of the entire event. Since it's around 30 minutes long, it too is involved and takes some time, but it's coming. I want everyone to get a feel for what it was like to be there. The support from all of you has been overwhelming. Hopefully, I can thank each and every one of you individually at NVE in LV next May. The Viper Nation is the best. Without your support and that of The Viper Exchange, this never could have happened.

Russ, hopefully after they fixed the fence, that they gave you the managed-up guard rail. That actually would be a kind of cool auction item! Not many can stay they have a piece of the ring and one the Viper took out. Anyway have fun in Vegas, my procrastination put me on the bench for next year's event so I will miss that one.

Hey Everyone, those of you who donated $2000+ and received an autographed helmet, should have received it by now. The posters are still at the printer's and will be sent out shortly. Be on the lookout for a documentary video on the entire effort. It will be released within the next 2 weeks (maybe 3). It chronicles our efforts from beginning to end. I think you'll like it. Again, thanks to everyone who donated and helped with this effort.

I hope the video has the correct time of 7:01 instead of the 7:03 that the recent Kumho videos have been spouting off...

I can PROMISE you that the correct time will be represented in the video. There are a series of great articles in this weeks "Autoweek." They mentioned our effort and really gave the Viper a great send off. Why weren't the magazines as charitable between 1992 - 2016?

Or the fastest car on tires it actually used in production.... I'm of the opinion there is going to have to be scrutineering done on ring laps for them to actually mean anything... Too much room for shenanigans by manufacturers to be a useful metric at this point.
