Day 9: For some of the American Viper fans, it's now the middle of the night. At 2AM EST,(8AM local time) we were on the track with a lap donated to us by the very nice folks at The Nurburgring. What I can tell you is that a lot of people here recognize the monumental grassroot effort being made by The Viper Nation, and they are doing what they can to help. Luca Stolz had to leave as he had a race this weekend, so we were down to one car with Dominik Farnbacher driving. The track is so long, that the marshalls have a pretty good idea of how fast a car is lapping by how long it takes to pass different points (which are actually different cities) (split times). We were told after 2 minutes that we were one of the fastest cars they had ever seen. And then after 7 minutes when the car didn't return, we became concerned. Around 8 minutes, it pulled into the pits. Things happen in racing and in this case, the radio that the Industry Pool requires each car to carry, fell off its mount and lodged itself behind the pedals. Dom alternately had no brake or no clutch. Dom then had to leave to go home to pack (4 hours away) as he has his first NASCAR race this weekend. He said that if we can get back on track for one more lap at the end of the day, he will drive back (4 hours) to pilot that one lap. Since then, it has started raining again, so it looks like we will be forced to return in August if we can get the money.
A lot of you are asking for the video. We know you want it and are getting to downloading it to a computer and trimming the heads and tails so you only have to watch the 7:03 and not a bunch of extraneous footage. It's coming, I promise, but there is a lot going on, all at once. Irrespective of the 7:03 video that we will post, this is not the end. We can get into the 6's and are going to do it. If you want to continue to help this effort, please go to the gofundme page and donate. This is extremely expensive stuff to do. It's not like we can just show up and run a record time. We are competing against efforts that are funded by factories that are willing to spend unlimited money to have their car be the Ring King. And we all know which car is truly the Ring King. Stay tuned.
