Bravo! Great time. This already is a record run for naturally aspirated, mass produced, streetable, OEM coupes with a six speed manual transmission. (There should be different classes. Hybrids with trick auto trannys and computer adjusted aero on the fly are not the same type of vehicle.) History and the Matrix dwellers who replace the current gear heads will look back on the ACR extreme as the pinnacle of NA/six speed manual, mass produced coupes.

Looks like they are done till August. Lots of positive things to take away from this which I hope will get some more funding for the next run.

I find it amazing how many little things affect a run... Whole experience was interesting.

Great job either way and good luck

Vipers and definitely Corvettes...these are real deal production cars that anyone can track down and buy with ease. Viper ACR E will break into the 6's and in my book will be the fastest true production car to have done so. I hope ZR1 backs up Viper with at least close to 6 minute time...because then that'll be Murica right there...
Are you serious? Anyone can buy a Lamborghini Huracan Performante... It's more of a production car than the Viper considering the factory is shutting down for the Viper.

Can I go buy one today? Drive one home? The same 2018 model that "set the record" in 2016..
    Serious question.

You can order one, or you could possibly buy a pre-owned one. Just because they aren't sitting on dealer showrooms in inventory doesn't mean they aren't production cars.

Can you go buy a GTS-R at your local Dodge dealer and drive one home.

The Performante is an unlimited Lamborghini - at some point Lamborghini will make a faster version of the Huracan which will be limited and hard to get but the Performante is no different than the ACR other than it costs twice the price.

Call STL Motors if you are a serious buyer pm me and I will put you in touch with the owner of the dealer.

It would suck to settle for a record with an asterisk next to it but what amazes me is that with the rate that automotive technology advances even from year to year... The Viper is in the hunt with what is essentially a 25+ year old design. I mean what other car more closely resembles itself from 25 years ago in any automotive category ?

wow, so thankful for all the effort, and having a dodge and American Pride moment here... Awesome, great job!

I thought they were going to try for Friday? Well I hope they go back in August. I hope they won't settle for the 7:03 knowing it will go faster. Im very appreciative of the 7:03 and the huge effort that was undertaken. But we all know in our bones this beast has a 6:xx in it. Hope things fall into place in August...

I can call up a dealer in Texas today and buy a GTS-R or several other dealers and pick up a new ACR-Extreme sitting on the lot.

Has anyone in the US even picked up a new Lamborghini Huracan Performante yet? Serious question because I have not been able to find any owners reviews of the car, posts, pics etc. I can't buy one, yet the it set a record for a production car last year before production was even started. LOL

I think Friday was the flight/travel day. Correct me if I am wrong.

  13. #388
wonder if they left the cars there like it was possibly going to do

  14. #389
Not sure if its a flight day or not. I thought I read somewhere that they were going to try Friday since its projected to be a nice day. Could have been a rumor like the last one about them leaving to come back in August. But wait...That's exactly what's being said now lol...So maybe the rumor about the Friday run will come true too hehe. Either way Go Viper.....Now to get the Nurburgring weather to cooperate.

Just watched a video of Bernie & Russ on FB where they mentioned they are looking for their run tomorrow. It was posted 5 hrs ago.

EDIT: I THINK this video was taken yesterday after the 7.03 run. They were looking forward to a 2nd lap run tomorrow (being today, damn time zones and all)

The results of that 2nd run I think are in the post below.

    Another update

Day 9: For some of the American Viper fans, it's now the middle of the night. At 2AM EST,(8AM local time) we were on the track with a lap donated to us by the very nice folks at The Nurburgring. What I can tell you is that a lot of people here recognize the monumental grassroot effort being made by The Viper Nation, and they are doing what they can to help. Luca Stolz had to leave as he had a race this weekend, so we were down to one car with Dominik Farnbacher driving. The track is so long, that the marshalls have a pretty good idea of how fast a car is lapping by how long it takes to pass different points (which are actually different cities) (split times). We were told after 2 minutes that we were one of the fastest cars they had ever seen. And then after 7 minutes when the car didn't return, we became concerned. Around 8 minutes, it pulled into the pits. Things happen in racing and in this case, the radio that the Industry Pool requires each car to carry, fell off its mount and lodged itself behind the pedals. Dom alternately had no brake or no clutch. Dom then had to leave to go home to pack (4 hours away) as he has his first NASCAR race this weekend. He said that if we can get back on track for one more lap at the end of the day, he will drive back (4 hours) to pilot that one lap. Since then, it has started raining again, so it looks like we will be forced to return in August if we can get the money.
A lot of you are asking for the video. We know you want it and are getting to downloading it to a computer and trimming the heads and tails so you only have to watch the 7:03 and not a bunch of extraneous footage. It's coming, I promise, but there is a lot going on, all at once. Irrespective of the 7:03 video that we will post, this is not the end. We can get into the 6's and are going to do it. If you want to continue to help this effort, please go to the gofundme page and donate. This is extremely expensive stuff to do. It's not like we can just show up and run a record time. We are competing against efforts that are funded by factories that are willing to spend unlimited money to have their car be the Ring King. And we all know which car is truly the Ring King. Stay tuned.

You're looking at a wait time approaching a year at least. I suppose in some senses you're correct, to a degree, but that'd be the only one of the example. Pirelli conceded that they "kind of made a slick tire" for the Performante. Likely they shaved the tire pretty good, which is why there is no tire squealing in the vid. I agree with you partially.

Thx for the update. I don't know if they will get the 50k they need for the other run in time for August. I hope so. Is the gofundme back up? Link?

Thanks for the update. That's a bitter sweet feeling. I think I can speak for everyone in that we know the car definitely can do more (how much is TBD). I just hope that they DO actually go back and luck is in their favor. Seems that luck wasn't on their side at all this week. The wait is definitely suspenseful and killing us all!

Great job out of the gate! I do feel they are feeding us info in a way that sets expectations because you always want to exceed expectations. They will do just that in the end. Now the funding aspect, it is very expensive to do that however, sell the car when finished, get Motor Trend (who supposing now just "get it") let them contribute something as well.

Here is to hoping Friday is the day to be all days. Personally from first lap to last lap, first time out to finishing, if they can get the right conditions and equipment holds out, they will turn a sub 7 sec run. Most we can hope for I believe is around 9 second shave at best, which would still be amazing in itself. A stock car you can still buy in the showroom with factory tires, equipment (less roll cage) with the know how to set it up and experience to run it. That is quite an amazing feat already.

BTW shame on you FCA! You can see the car will now not embarrass you with the times. Kick in some fricken money or go pound sand for all your new models and cars. You either support and practice what you preach or risk losing the diehards forever. If you have any remote intention of bringing the Viper back, this is your "ah-ha" moment of support. My opinion is people bought your cars and that is support enough from the fans. Time to use some of the savings from shutting down the museum, plant and the car.

It's a bit irritating that with all the effort put forth and positive press the attempt has gotten, those cheap asses at FCA won't step up and help at all.

    Just sad....

The tow truck bills for the Guilia sucked up all their track cash.

Heres the link to the gofundme. Looks like its still active

Use the Report a post feature... It works!

Did FCA kick in money for the Guilia lap time at the Ring? I know it turned a very good lap time just not sure if it was sponsored by FCA or a private effort.

The Viper defined the brand for 25 years and FCA won't even chip in to commemorate the last hurrah of the legend in its own time. Pretty sad but they botched up the Gen V from launch to the end so this is not surprising. Maybe they just want it to go away so that people forget their extraordinary ineptitude in marketing the car. They went out of their way to find ways to deny warranties so I just don't see them lifting a finger to fund this run.

Thx for the link Viper Girl..
