The rear hubs had ~1 degree of play causing the aforementioned handling characteristics in the rear. They only found this while looking over the car carefully for a root cause (it wasn't an obvious issue but noticeable on track at the limit with pro drivers).

So these were brand new ACR's with brand new hubs that had play. I would imagine that the replacement ones, since they will be identical and new/used, will also have the same issue after a few laps right? Are they going to tweak them so they last for the Ring test? Really hope they get past this hurdle...

I think the hubs are fine on any other track so it sounds like it really isn't a "problem". But on the a track as long and extremely demanding as the Ring, if there are any weak links it will reveal it. PRO DRIVERS, 1700lbs of downforce, super sticky Kumho's and 13+ miles its great that the only issue that popped up is the hubs.

So that appears to be a completely different issue with the hubs that I'm pretty sure none of us tracking the cars have found and maybe it's apparent only as a result of the much higher speeds and loads at the Nurburgring.

Do ACRs have different hubs to non-ACRs?

Tom O'dell told me to tighten the rear hubs to double the ft/lbs of what the factory specs were, he said they had this exact problem when breaking all those track records.

Sounds a bit similar to what happened with the Gen IV ACR - in extreme usage, they realized that hollow half-shafts wouldn't cut it, so they did a quick design change to solid units. Hopefully the factory issues a TSB on this for "extreme track usage" so that this little tweak (if it is indeed the culprit) becomes a legitimate production adjustment. I'd hate to see the interwebs light up with conspiracy theories about cars that weren't truly "production cars" beat the record.

Of course, this is all speculation for now, so we're all probably talking out of our azzes.

This is why dodge should have helped out, This is the type of information that can help break records.

So, does anyone know if this record attempt is officially over and the record has NOT been set? Or are we waiting on official info still to follow? I don't believe I've seen any official posts by Bernie or anyone part of the project regarding results or a delayed/suspended attempt, correct?

From my understanding, they are continuing to test in the industry pool the rest of the week and hoping for a time slot to open up for an official attempt.

^^This. Also, I think they're still trying to get a slot of Friday with the commercial crew. Hopefully...

We do not know that the issue has anything to do with the torque value. We do not know what is the experience level of the techs they had prep the cars. The issue about torquing the hub nuts is known enough that I, as a forum reader and HPDE enthusiast, knew about it from threads posted in years past. However, it is easy to lose "tribal knowledge" if the extreme performance "fix" is not incorporated into the production build.

The acrx cars had a 100 pounds or more of tork on the same hub bearings as the sreet cars in the day

Dick was not the "Head Engineer of Viper" which is why I asked who you were referring to.

They will get a slot to run this week if all things stay on course, they are NOT allowed to set times during the industry days event, only mild practice and dialing in.

Fingers crossed for weather, the rest will be on Dom and the team's shoulders.

Weather forecast for Friday looks promising meanwhile... but who knows, maybe they did a hot lap today already?!

Just ran a 7:03..not bad for the first run. My guess is plenty more to improve. Not sure about tire temp or anything else, but sounds like we can do better
