Thread: Wheel hop issue

    Wheel hop issue

I'm not sure if it's a common problem with gen 2 vipers....I have a 97 RT/10 that has a wheel hop issue coming out of the hole either doing a burn out or trying to hook up it happens both times. Its not violent like the old Pontiac GTO's were, lol. It does have brand new Michelin pilots on it and on a new blacktop road, maybe that combination will cause it...anybody else have this?

The Woodhouse Engine and transmission mounts will help reduce the issue . Give Mark J a call .

+1 on put new mounts in. Quite possible yours are toast even if they look good from up top.

    I found on my car:
    Woodhouse Trans mount + 3.55 gears =
    No more bucking!
    No more clunking!
    No more gear lash!
    No more hopping!
    No more cowl shake!

Interesting feedback. I was told by a very reputable Viper vendor that gears would actually make the bucking problem worse when i mentioned I was thinking of 3.73;s. Curious to hear if others experienced less bucking when they went to different gears.

I can't speak to the Woodhouse mounts. I even posted a similiar post with same problem about 1 year ago: wheel hop. I recently installed polybushings.com mounts and my car doesn't hop anymore. Not only that but the power is more immediate and direct to the wheels. Drives like a new car; amazing difference. Tight like a tiger. Having said this, my mounts were completely thrashed and split in half so...yeah.

I will soon be installing 3.73 gears so if this post is still up I'll update if that makes a difference in wheel hop.

Are you saying old tires help prevent wheel hop or help make it worse?

I have a new set, in the box, Woodhouse engine mounts available. I kept my SVS engine mounts.
