Congrats on getting the car running and driveable. I have done this exact challenge as you have numerous times on old 60's muscle cars and it is one of the most rewarding thing when you take the thing from dead and then your cruising down the road letting the wind blow through your hair. I've been watching your car from the start and I never doubted it would not get finished. All I can say is Great Job

Has anybody else had any Brake Light issues?

When I pull the parking brake the Brake Light stays on... and I mean on, and on, and on... car is in the off position and the Brake Light stays on permanently, and I mean for hours!

The only solution I have is to disconnect the battery so that it does not go dead over night... any resolution would be helpful...

So when you hook up the battery again, is the light out? If you can get at the switch, I would check continuity across it. Also your brake light could be on as to let you know you have a brake problem. If you have access to a scanner, hook it up and see if it tells you anything

I will need to get a hold of someone with a scanner.

When I disconnect the battery and hook it back up again the brake light is out. It is not until I hit the brake does it stay on and will not go out after I turn the car off.

I have already bypassed the hydraulic clutch sensor so I can start the car... could that cause issues? Sounds like a stupid question but there are a lot of strange things going through this PCM, I am sure, and nothing surprises me anymore!

Ok, in your one post you say its when you use the park brake, this post sounds like when you step on the brake pedal!, Which one is it or both. If it is your brake pedal it might be as simple as you don't have a good bleed on the system. If that is the case then maybe try bleeding the brakes again

Thought it was the parking brake at first but last night I did not set the parking brake and the light stayed on...

Bleeding the brakes... man, I guess I am taking off all 24 Lugs and getting my son back in the garage for some more quality time with the brakes... thanks, I will let you know.

Also, can that be a cause for the hydraulic brake sensor to fail to register the clutch pedal being depressed? Trapped air in the clutch feeder hose? The Clutch has been very responsive and I do not feel any grinds or hard shifts while running it.

Lastly, the engine light just came back on... man I think I need to get a scanner on this much sooner than later... well at least it's on the ground and seems to be running without any weird noises other than the sound of air running through the cab without that windshield in... and I took the hatch off until the windshield arrives because I want my roof to stay attached!

A little heads up, the G5 (not sure about G4) PCM does not show all of its codes to typical scan tools. It takes the Witech to see them all. Do not get me wrong a good scan tool with enhanced code capability will show most codes, just not all the codes.

Jack is right, You will need to get a scanner that can give more detail than your local auto zone code reader. You will need the Witech or a good Snap-on Solus or Modis to read what you need. You mention the hydraulic brake sensor, If it has failed that will turn your light on but I would scan it first to see what comes up

I don't know how the Viper's brake master cylinder is set up. On other cars I've owned the master is a dual reservoir system, one for the front and one for the rear. Cars older than about 1967 had single reservoir masters. If you lost pressure on either the front or rear you lost all braking. Newer masters use the dual reservoirs to mitigate this risk. There is a sensor between the front and rear parts of the master (at least on other cars I've had). If you were to lose pressure in either the front or rear system there is a sensor that slides towards the low pressure side of the master setting the light. If this were to happen, the slide needs to be re-centered or the light will stay on even if the system is properly bled. Not sure if this applies to a Viper but the Viper must have something similar.

How difficult would it be to fit a Gen5 spider brace to a Gen3/4? From the looks it would be as simple as using some self-tapping screws/bolts.

  15. #240
If you want to make your Frankenstine a vert....I remember reading that Prefix used the gen3/4 top to make the medusa.

Personally if I had your skill I'd go with a Targa top! Always wanted a targa top Like the RT/10 without the ugly backside.

Boy that was fun... Started this project over two years ago with the Gen IV frame when I thought I would never find a cheap Gen V. Got this Gen V Viper salvage in April 2016 and it's finally running down the road on 7 October 2017! Almost done! What a great feeling tonight was!

Hmm... So, from a cost to just restore the car, yes!

From the base of knowledge I got out of it, yes!

From the standpoint of getting back into getting back into building cars again after a 28 year leave of absence, absolutely!

From the standpoint of being afraid that parts will not available in the future and therefore I must store at least one of everything... not really! I have more money invested in GEN V spares parts collection then I have invested in this car...

From the standpoint of knowing who built what part, who does what mods, and all Points of Contact I have made during this effort, priceless! And the cost and price points I get stuff at based on these contacts has been awesome.

Totally agree Viperguy69. The sense of accomplishment alone was worth it. Money spent isn't the only metric to consider in projects like these. People get so used to paying others to do stuff, which Im not knocking, that they forget the personal satisfaction of learning and then doing things themselves. Its the most unique Viper on the planet now lol. Congrats and thanks for sharing your hard work with us. It was very entertaining to watch the progress. Enjoy it in good health.

    Incredible

Please finish the paint and take some day time pictures. You should send the progress from day one to completion to Jalopnik!
