    attachment to your car

I'm curious, any of you guys ever get attached to your car and have a hard time letting it go? I have a '95 last 300 side exhaust, I am the original owner and have had it since I bought it 22 years ago, besides when at the dealer for service I am the only person to have ever driven it. My problem is this, I bought a new '16 gt, when I told my wife I wanted to buy the '16 she said she had no problem with that but if I did I have to sell the '95. I put it up for sale and have had 7 offers but I'm having a very hard time letting it go. I'm not a mechanic so I am dependent on a viper tech to keep it going, that and the reported scarcity of the parts has me a little concerned. Any of you guys ever experience this and if so and you did sell it how did you feel after you sold it? Sorry you did or you got over it?

I've been attached to a couple of cars that were hard to sell. Seeing them drive off was tough but after a couple of days I was much happier having the money in my bank account than the car sitting in the garage. Best of luck with your sell.

    What bluesnake said.

Seriously, if you can hang onto the '95 just do it. It's literally the last of an american icon. And considering you're the original owner makes it that much more special.

I still have my first moped which I got when 16 yrs old! Its a 1973 Honda SS50.
Then I also still have my first Motorcycle 1977 Triumph T140V Bonneville!
And my second motorcycle a 2003 Harley Fatboy!
Some cars have come and gone, but the Viper is staying in the Family and I hope my Son enjoys it when I'm Gone. (and before Im gone when it becomes cheap enough to get him on the insurance)

My first car was a '71 trans am and my second was a '74 trans am super duty, should have kept those, still think about the '71 once in a while.

Thanks for the responses but I have to keep my wife because I'm semi-retired so she is the breadwinner now... What about the scarcity of parts?

Just keep it and tell her it's an investment that is going to rise in value very quickly. I believe there are several threads on this topic you could get her to read....

Have a garage full of cars I didn't want to sell. I have one regret believe it or not and that was selling my 77 Trans Am T.A. 6.6 to buy my 69 Vette. Wish I held onto that as well....
Sounds like your attached to the car (I would be to) Unless its a money issue, tell mom how you feel and maybe she will tell you to keep it...

    Good luck!

Not a money issue, to be honest I don't really care if she wants me to get rid of it or not, her I can deal with.... the reasons are 2 fold, one because of the scarcity of parts and two because I'm not a mechanic and I'm dependent on someone else to fix it but the scarcity of the parts is my real concern. If I knew I could always get parts I would not sell it, I don't drive it much anymore but still think it looks great.... maybe I should enlarge a picture of it and put it in the garage instead....

Personally I wouldnt worry about parts. If you don't drive it allot, and you behave driving it (for the most part) you wont be going through parts.

Sounds like you're attached, I would be if I were you, but don't let the potential future scarcity of parts drive your motive.

This group has a lot of engineers, professional/DIY/backyard mechanics and vendors to find a solution to any problem.

For the most part, we're dealing with a very basic car. There was a CAM sensor scare not too long ago, and people in the community stepped up for a short term solution.

And...it's better to ask for forgiveness afterwards...

The question was really more about the car than the wife. She told me tonight she never thought I would sell the car... see when you're with somebody for 29 years they get to know you pretty well...

Since you are having second thoughts about selling, I would keep it. You will probably regret it. I have had my 65 Corvette for 46 years and my 61 Corvette for 35 years. I had weak moments over the years when I almost sold both. Very glad I did not. It only took me 2 years to get attached to my Sapphire GTS.

Have a 94 and 97 GTS. Love the GTS but there is nothing like driving the RT 10. Special feel you do not get in the GTS...Keep it or you will be sorry.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. If he doesn't get attached to nothing that means he gets attached to something, could be almost everything.

I have sold several vehicles I didn't want to let go. Either because I was out of room, wanted the money for something else or just didn't drive them anymore for one reason or another. However I have never owned a car for 22 years, let alone a new Viper that I picked up. That being said I don't think I could ever get rid of a Viper that I bought new, especially after that many years! I am on my 3rd Viper and just picked it up at Conner Ave on Friday. I have absolutely 0 intentions of ever selling it. Any move in the future will be with the intent of bringing my 2 Vipers with me. If there is no room for them I won't consider it. No woman will talk me into getting rid of them. Both my '09 and '17 are keepers.

If it were me, I couldn't do it. 22 years later no way. If you have the space and the funds to keep it, IMO do it. Even if you don't drive it much. You wont ever be able to replace it.

You can work on the 95 yourself. It is a very easy car to work on. If you're in needs of parts, somebody normally has them laying around...............

I have 4 or 5 cars. I don't plan on selling any. I just like to add
09 ACR With all the goodies
    99 ACR TT 99 red RT/10 Roe S/C
    97 B/W RT/10 TT 94 RT/10 TT

My girlfriend (of almost 20 years) told me I couldn't get rid of My first Viper. This was after I told her I was thinking about trading up to a gen V. She's right, I can't get rid of my first Viper.

Fast forward 2 years of ownership. Next year I will be looking for an 02 RT/10 to add to the 06. This may sound sick but I've been telling my POPS that I'm spending a 1/4 of his money on a Gen V. I told him to pick it out now while hes still kicking. He says he's going to buy me a pink Gen V. I'm still waiting....
