Dads first time driving my Viper

My Dad lives out in CO, and was home this past weekend to visit. He has yet to be in/see/or drive my Viper. He's only seen pictures and videos of it.

So we took it out Saturday before the rain rolled in. He's got a 500+hp 1967 GTO, and he said this was SCARY lol. Said it was one of the most exciting cars he's ever driven, and couldn't believe how easy it broke loose the 355's out back, and how "tight" it was tearing around the country roads. Then we hung out in the garage talking cars and drinking Jack all night.

He got bit, and may be looking for one of his own now

Man there really are few things better than talking cars and hanging out. Glad you got to spent time with him and let him drive your car.
I recently took my dad to a 1/2 mile event. We spent 400 miles in the car and it was easily the most fun ive had with my dad in a decade.

That's awesome! Ya we don't get to see one another often, so it was great to hang out, watch some movies, drink some Jack and just talk(mostly cars) all night. I found him many times just staring at the Viper, and how much he loved it. Never really see these, ever and I only think he's seen a handful in person.

Haven't been to a 1/2 mile event yet, but I bet that was incredible.

Great story. Your Dad looks pretty happy behind the wheel. Nice Goat too. I hadn't driven one until 2 years ago myself. Of course I bought it immediately. Vipers are a blast to drive. It's like a go kart with a big block. The torque is great but the handling is even better.

Lol I remember last year my dad drove mine for the first time. He scared himself pretty bad. Pulled over and let me drive it back home

That's a pretty good description lol. They really are, and the power/torq just NEVER gets old.

He's driven some fast cars, so it didn't scare him THAT bad lol. If you've never driven anything like it, then it can be pretty intimidating. He didn't want to stop driving it though

Thanks for posting a great story, my dad was not really a car guy and I never got to do that kind of thing with him.

Thank you sir! It was an awesome day.

Best part was seeing his reactions and finally understanding why I have been crazy about this car for so long!

    Cool!

Tell your Dad to reach out to Jim Johnson and/or check out our Colorado website ( www.co-voa.com ) and come out to an event. The members can help him find a car, ride along or whatever in any Gen. That will help him decide which one he would like. Best group of car people I have ever met out here in the Rockies.

Heck, tell your Dad I can send him a 700 hp Supercharged , Yellow 2005 right now.......he will have his Horsepower needs fulfilled before this Summer, ha.

Way cool story -- fathers , sons and their cars, pretty much sums what life is all about.

Thank you! Yes it was a pretty awesome day! He loved it. He's had that GTO since 1981 and that's what I grew up with! Looks like you have an awesome collection of Vipers!

Haha, thanks Bill. Don't know if that's in his budget just yet lol. I think he may be partial to the GenII as well, when the time comes I will make sure to let you know! I agree, awesome to share such a passion with your Dad

My dad is coming over this weekend to see my new 2014. After reading this the first thing I'm doing is handing him the keys. That guy taught me to drive stick! Time to return the favor.

Sounds great!! That should be your first move haha. My Dad taught me to drive stick as well, on that same 1967 GTO!

Great story, awesome pics. Time like that spent with a parent gets more valuable with age! I bet your dad was smiling all the way home thinking of that visit and night of talking cars and having a few drinks. My dad is a hotrod guy also, getting older now but we still get together for a beer or 3 and talk cars. shit like that is priceless.
