Its been some time since any have atleast been reported on here. Can we finally say were past the plague?

No, one was just reported yesterday on here, non R28 car. There are still a lot of low mile 13/14's cars that need to be driven more.

Well damn
Slowhatch's car was indeed an R28 car, and it passed, if you read his first post in the thread.
Glad my early build 13 is gone-zo
Another example of people on here spreading rumors and misinformation, people who dont actually know should stay quiet
Prior to my car going in the shop (4weeks ago), there was one in for an engine replacement so they are still out there.
I don't know him so not sure if he is on the boards or not.
I totally understand. Your engine did not quit running. But, the failure is still relevant to the OP's actual post, rather than the title, since the root cause could be the same as other engine failures that the OP may or may not be referring to. His question was pretty unspecific.
With so many low mileage '13-14's out there, and apparently quite a few with R28 recalls that haven't even gone in for testing yet, it will be a very long time until some of these cars are in the clear. Lots of owners could be paying out of pocket after their warranties have expired. Best advice...pretend you bought the car to enjoy and drive it
No, my post was relevant. You stay quiet now.
Well that's only because you were savvy enough to notice it. I've seen lifters tear apart a whole engine if left untreated. In my opinion if any internal part breaks in the long block that would cause you to shut down the motor then I'd call it a failure. Sure it was relatively minor and not a catastrophic failure but we are just getting into semantics now. If you continued to run the car the odds are pretty good it would have eventually failed completely.
I see both of your points, my reply was geared more-so to correct the context of the "failed engine" part. While my failure would have likely led to engine failure if driven on aggressively and unchecked, my car also did pass the oil contamination test, meaning I do not have any accelerated bearing wear what-so-ever (and thus no debris). Can you lump me in with the rest of the contamination cases, I don't know. I assumed contamination of the inner lifter blocking oiling, as its the most common rationale. In reality either spring could have failed (main or check valve), or varnish causing the ball in the check valve not to seat, or maybe something else I can't think of.
This. If you're stressed about the motor to the point which you're making threads about it after its been discussed ad naseum on here, sell the car. And I don't mean for this to be facetious, I'm being dead serious. These are toys, for pleasure use. They have zero practicality or purpose outside of putting a smile on your face. For this money, if you're not dying to get home and drive it, tripping over parking blocks while walking away because you're staring at it, thinking about it when you should be thinking of other things, you have the wrong car. Buy something else where you can have peace of mind and enjoy it.
I know one guy local in Michigan here that blew his engine at 38k miles. I believe he has a 2013 GTS and spun rod 2 rod bearings around Christmas time. Only mods were a catback and it was covered by warranty. Not sure if it was contamination issue at that high of miles, or just low on oil. I know the guy drives his car pretty hard. Definitely interesting to have one at 38k miles spinning 2 bearings though.
At that mileage either debris is coming dislodged from somewhere over time, or he just ran the car low on oil. Few people admit the car was ever low on oil since it places the blame squarely back on them.
Yes if it was a 2013 then it likely had the r28 recall. I spoke to the Jer Slicker and he said the guy was doing 30 second donut videos then had the car on a rack with spun bearings reported. Who knows - I wish FCA would just extend warranty for all damn vipers instead of selecting only r28 cars.
I believe I know that car. It was driven extremely rough. driving hard is one thing but ragging a car and not adhering to strict maintenance is a recipe for disaster regardless of any engine issues. Crazy burnouts for laughs, riding clutches, doing numerous hard launches with radials, sudden acceleration from cold starts and not checking oil religiously are just a few things which are much different than say tracking the vehicle regularly with good maintenance.
Nah nothing exciting. Michigan winter just ended and spring is just now getting the cars out of the garage around here. I made sure to drive it on nice days and ran into some viper owners just cruising about. I'm going to invest in a good dash cam this summer. I still get a kick out of starting up the car around a crowd. People jump back every time despite knowing its loud!
Old quick idle and rev clips.
