    More "Rookie" questions

    Hey group,

Still searching for the perfect gen5. Located a 2014 GTS GunMetal color (which I really like) with 1500 miles. Dealer is asking 84, and they just informed me it is a manufacturer buy back for "check engine light", for which neither dodge or the dealership could re-produce the issue.

Questions - How does a buy back affect value? My research would suggest that if this wasnt a buy back a fair offer would be high 70's to 80. But it would appear as if a buy back branded vehicle it worth about 20% less. Is that correct?

    Thanks

This could possibly be my old car.

Is the last 6 of the VIN 100185? If so the car is perfect. PM for details if it is.

Your question is about resale. If branded it is definitely worth a lot less and it will always be. Once branded , that will not change , so keep that in mind as that was what you were wondering.

    Robo,

Some depend on the rarity of the model and reason and documentation of the buyback and that will effect how much less it goes for. GTS models also varied widely in pricing based on the options so a very highly optioned vehicle can't fall under a blanket offer because other people paid X for the car. Mileage, color, options all factor in buyback or not.

Simple math. If your concern is resale, don't purchase a lemon.

Also may have financing issues with lemons if you choose to go that route

I have my buyback 14 gts well optioned 9800 miles for sale for $73k and getting no interest. So I would assume 84k is high. This buyback crappy value thing annoys me. Since it seems to lower the value worse than a car that had an accident. When as you see, could have been nothing major wrong with the car. That and they had to fix the problem before reselling. Good option thou for someone who what's to get into a gen 5 cheap, as I myself did. There are several banks the will finance a buyback the same. I used pnc.
