    Driver door won t close

    Hey guys hoping for a
Help to fix. My my 2014 SRT driver door all of a sudden won't close. I already tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and that didn't work. The latch on door itself doesn't click when you push it down when compared to passenger it clicks and locks down when you press it as the striker would when closed. Any idea what the issue is or what the fix is?

    Thanks!!

Early owners would know better but sounds like the door mechanism issue due to moisture. Did you drive it in the rain recently?

This...the sensor is underneath the door handle, and if it get's wet, it won't close. Sometimes when I wash my car, I have the same issue.

I did read on the forum recently about a guy having a problem with the trunk hood latch, it turned out the hatch would not lock because he had a spare set of keys in the car and the proximity of the keys was not allowing the trunk lid to lock the keys in the car! Might be a similar issue?

    Hi James
    this was the thread https://driveviper.com/forums/thread...ht=trunk+close

Here are a couple of the answers....
Snorman - "Oddly enough, two weeks ago I picked up a new Hellcat Charger from a dealer in Milwaukee. I flew up, and drove it back to Florida. Around Indianapolis, I stopped for some food and a cup of coffee. After I looped around Starbucks (yeah, I like it), I stopped in the lot and grabbed a towel out of my duffel bag. Closed the trunk, drove out to the main road and was sitting at a stoplight. Light goes green, I look in the mirror as I'm pulling away and the trunk is open. Hmmm...so I pull into a hotel lot and close the trunk. As I turn around, it pops open again. Lather, rinse, repeat 2 or 3 times and now I'm thinking how in the hell I'm going to tie the trunk down for the next 800 miles. Eventually, I shut off the car, closed the trunk and it stayed. I figured "WTF?"
Talked to MoparBoyy about two hours later. He asked, "where are the extra keys". They were in my duffel bag. Turns out, on some Dodge models they can sense where the key is and prevent the trunk from staying latched or the doors from being locked.
So does the Viper have something similar? Probably not, but at least worth the question."

"Snorman is the MAN!!!! I knew this gotta be it after reading your input! I never did have the remote on me! Finally it worked & I didnt have to slam too! Beauty! Meaning of the story is ppl tend to neglect & forget the simple stuff..."

Did you have the door handle recall done?

The recall was for doors popping open, this is the reverse issue of won't shut. Probably the same mechanism of issue. I remember being careful not to drench the door handles during a car wash and refraining from driving in pouring rain. I think when I did the recall they swapped out the door handles. Have a dealer run your VIN to determine if yours qualifies

Thanks Guys, i appreciate it very much. NO the car did not get wet whatsoever, i never drive the car in rain and its always garaged. I DID however have both sets of keys in the car..... But i did go back into the garage later last night with only one set, disconnected the negative terminal of the battery to try and still nothing.... i am praying its something stupid like that, what a hassle to take the car to the dealer just for this nonsense right at the beginning of driving season.

this probably happens to me once a month on my gen 4 ACR.

what works for me is to turn the ignition on, but do not start the car( make sure the drivers side window is down). with the ignition on, reach out and push down the handle on the outside of the door. you will instantly here a click (this resets the door). now you will be able to close the door without issue. this works for me 100% of the time.

Just an update.... Although the suggestion from red heat did not solve the issue, it did lead to the fix... so THANK YOU red heat! bushing down the door handle outside with window down and ignition on did result in a "click" but not the actual engaging of the latch to striker. What I did was hold the door closed as tight as possible with left arm (window down obviously) then with right hand, i pulled on the door open lever a few times which woke up the latch and engaged it to the striker. I then proceeded to open and close door about 20 times (the additional 19 for safe measure!) and we have a fix!

Thank you again VOA for your help! It truly is an amazing community we have here and i am very proud to be part of it. Hoping to actually drive the car this year and get out so some events!
