    Wheel tire questions

    Hi all.

Went to viper tracks 3 at bondurant 2 weeks ago. It was a great event for my first track experience. I did destroy my stock tires. So I'm going to order a set of wheels/tires to have for the track and a keep a stock setup. I have a '16 TA 1.0. I love my swII wheels, and am leaning towards a second set of those. But I like the acr wheels too. I realize the acr runs 19 up front vs my Ta's 18 up front. Will there be any real advantages to putting 19s all the way around? If so are there any real advantages to the ACR wheels over the sidewinder IIs? I'm thinking about the r888 tires, but also think the kumho acr tires would be a good way to go. I'm new at the track stuff, so honesty and simple suggestions would be appreciated. And for what it's worth, I do not like aftermarket wheels.

    Thanks!

Pete, I'd like to help you out.

ACR wheels are much heavier than the SW2 wheels, as they were designed for a car with the extreme downforce and side loads. They would certainly make your TA slower. No real advantages to going 19" front except if you have a larger than stock brake system, and need the room. I believe the ACR wheel/tire combo adds approx 40 lbs to the car vs SW2's/Corsa.

Since you are still learning and getting into the tracking, I'd avoid going to any race tire for now. The stock Corsa's are a great all-around tire and grip excellent on the track. Plus, like most street tires - they provide you with an audible feedback of when they are near their limits. Most race tires do not, they just reach that limit and let go if you cross the limit. Here is a pic of my TA on factory Corsa tires, you can see the inside wheel lifting off the ground - plenty of grip!

I know you say you don't like aftermarket wheels, but my car is rolling on some inexpensive rotary forged wheels (exact same construction as SW2) and these cost less and weigh the same. I have one set in stock (Gloss Black) that could ship today. Factory sized tires fit on them. https://driveviper.com/forums/thread...Inventory-Sets

Hi Tony. Thank you for your reply. I like the set of wheels that you provided the link for, they might be a great option. price seems great and I like the style. As a novice, I recognize that I do not yet in no the limitations of the car. My reason for wanting to buy a set of track tires is after a single event at Bondurant my front tires are completely toast, even have some large chunks missing out of the center of the tires. The rears are only slightly better. I don't want to have to buy two tires every time I go to the track.
