    LOL, valid point!

I have mixed emotions here. I think it was great that GWV stepped up and bought the cars. Recall that the cars were selling slowly at the time and that they did not hoard them to sell them MSRP like at least one other large dealer did (and it is not Roanoke or Woodhouse). Rather, GWV ensured the cars would be built and available to be sold to anyone who wanted one. They did a bunch of cool orders, taking full advantage of the 1-of-1 program (which was smart, imo), and tried to imagine what people might want other than red, white, black.

That said, I was one of the people that got caught in the ordering lock out once that happened. I had an order in mind, but had been sitting on it pending confirmation that 2017 was indeed the final year. Once the news was released, GWV jumped on it pretty quickly and the order banks were closed. I was very frustrated even though I knew it was my own damn fault.

I called around and, guess what? Two dealers had good information that ordering would very likely re-open for a short time (one of them being GWV). We finalized my order together, I gave my deposit, waited the few months that it took for the ordering window to open up, and bam... it was submitted and accepted. That ordering window opened and closed within days as I recall but, if you were ready, you were taken. In fact, I had a friend that wanted in even after learning that my order was accepted. I put him in touch with my dealer and he had no issue building a car and getting an order in.

So, it would seem that everything worked out all around -- the final year sold out; some amazing cars were built that otherwise might not have been built or might not have been so amazing; and people who were ready and interested enough to work the phones and locate a car were able to do so.

When they temporarily RE opened the order banks, I thought you couldn’t order a 6 vent hood, or an ACR as they had problems getting the wings....

I think you’re thinking of the really short 2nd opening right at the end. I believe that one had limited colors as well.

My order was pretty late, and I was barely able to get the 6 vent hood. Couldn't get a stryker color though.

You are correct that the ACR's were limited by how many wings would be available through the end of production. I understand that much of the reason for the closing of the order banks was because it was uncertain after the GWV order if any more ACR's could be built. GWV had ordered a bunch of ACR-E's. The pause also gave the supplier time to build as many wings as they could. After a few months, FCA counted the available wings and re-opened the order banks. The remaining ACR build slots were filled immediately (I was lucky enough to snag one) but non-ACR slots were available for a few more weeks. And, no Stryker colors for anyone.

Wow! Great timing on your part. I was talking with Bill P and GWV about ordering a car when the order bank opened and neither could do it. No 6 vent hood for a TA 1.0, and no ACR's because of the wing issue with the supplier I was told. I wanted to order a TA 1.0 with a custom color and the exact car I wanted could not be produced, so I scrapped that idea and just went for the big gun ACR-E FE GTS-R. Happy with how things turned out, but I still wouldn't mind a TA 1.0 as well and am now looking for said car to add to the stable if the right one presents itself.

You should concentrate on driving your cars instead of just looking at them in the garage. Plus you need to update your avatar. You don't even have that Gen 2 anymore. Do you work? LOL

If anyone could have made it happen, it would have been those guys. If there was no built order sitting when the banks opened back up, then you were left with limited options -- but you still could have done a 1-of-1 until the very end. While the order banks were closed, FCA was able to "see" the built orders that were sitting and was able to determine whether it could satisfy all of them and, if so, how many others it could satisfy. My guess is that there were probably 30 or so "built" orders that had been sitting for months waiting for the order banks to re-open (mine was one of them). The wait was nerve-racking because nothing was going on and FCA was not telling anyone anything. You just basically had to sit tight and call every few weeks to see if there were any updates. Then it was like bam!! The order banks opened, the sitting built orders were the first to be picked up, and then there were precious few slots available for the very end (non-ACR, non-6 vent, non-Stryker).

That said, your GTS-R is amazing and always will be a crown jewel of Viperland.

Speaking of people that were able to sneak their orders in.....

Too lazy to update my signature, but I do have a Gen II ACR, it's just a 99 instead of an 02, so not too far off.

I was hours away from placing a deposit on that car, but the ACR-E that I previously owned worked out in my favor last minute. I’m usually pretty good with keeping tabs on cars, but never saw this one again

    And maybe after NVE.
