New guy to VOA just saying hello and have a front license plate issue

Just sitting in my shop in Iowa waiting for spring "viper weather" and thought i would join voa. My name is Doug, I have a near perfect 97 gen 2 RT/10 viper in red. currently waiting on an autoform grand touring hard top and rear spoiler, Steve tells me a few more weeks...very excited to say the least!!! I just wanted to say hello to you all as a new member....hey maybe I could get some ideas on front license plate, dont want to drill holes and no good place to mount that will not restrict cooling. Iowa requires a front plate....

I've been running the JonB Viper Parts Rack front plate bracket since I bought my car over 5 years ago, and it's worked great. I've personally tested mine to 140+ MPH, and I can assure you there are no cooling issues when mounted to the front. Don't want it there? Removes in a couple seconds.

Just leave it off. I don't have one on my car and I'm pretty sure none of the other Iowa Vipers are running one either. I didn't have one on the CTS for the three years I had it either. I keep 'em in the trunk if I ever get stopped but so far that hasn't happened.

    Where in Iowa are you?

The Viper looks better without it and haven't been stopped yet either. I live by Storm Lake, about 2 hours north of Desmoines. I do like the viper parts rack bracket suggested by Steve m & LATAMUD if getting stopped becomes a problem...

Welcome to the greatest car club on the planet!

Here in Texas we're required to have front plates but I haven't put one on my Vipers (have had one since 2008) and so far, knock on wood, no tickets. I'm willing to pay a non-moving violation fine before I drill any holes in the nose!

When I lived in OH needed a front plate but I just had it screwed to the PartsRack mounts and left in the trunk. Never got pulled over for it but excuse was to be "Oh I just took it off a few min ago to was the car but forgot to put it back on". That mount is I think made out of Delrin or nylon and clips on very easily and stays put.

I have the one from the link LATAMUD posted, Being in NY a front plate is required and I did not want to drill holes.. It "clips" on tight and can easily be removed for a show or whatever reason you have.

Exactly. Call Jon B and he will have it at your place in a couple days

I used to keep mine rubber banded to the passenger visor, in case I was pulled over and planned to flip it down and to say there just wasn't a place to mount it and also "isn't it easier to see up here in the windshield"? It helps to have an old picture from a large Viper event that shows none displayed! I also made some static cling replicas of my plate on reflective vinyl and "stuck" them to the lower fascia, when traveling to states that required the plate. It was easily removed but seldom able to reuse! Most Ohio officers won't pull you over for just no front plate, but may "tack on" for multiple violations. There have been a few bills introduced in Ohio to go to a rear only plate.

Hey welcome to VOA Doug. I'm relatively new myself but have found a lot of good info here and friendly members!
