Anyone in Colorado can answer a weather question

I posted this in the Colorado section but it doesn't seem to bet much traffic.

I am going to telluride at the end of April. I've soent a lot of time there but always in the winter. Last weekend in April, good to go with the Viper? Salt off the roads and such?

Thanks. Feel free to PM me if this isn't an appropriate general discussion topic.

It really depends on how the weather is and whether or not we get snow. Right now we've had a very mild winter and there is no snow here and the roads are great. Over the next week the whether is supposed to be in the 60-70 range so it's looking good, but if we get a big snow storm in the beginning of April or mid April that could definitely change things. Sometimes we get a big snow storm early May (about 50/50 chance I'd say)

I agree, the end of April is very changeable weather in the mountains. Personally, I would not take my Viper into the mountains in April.

I wouldn't. Too much gravel and wet roads from shady areas still melting snow.

Colorado Viper driving is pretty much a Memorial Day to Labor Day kind of thing for planned drives. Otherwise you can hit it when it is nice but a little cal spur of the moment thing. Outside of that period above, I would not take it. Mild winter on a Front range but in the mountains is quite different and nothing mild about it.

    Bite,

I live 45 minutes from Telluride

When you ask about Colorado climate, the east side (Denver, Ft Collins, Colo Springs etc) is very different that the western slope and 4 corners. This since we get a lot of warm desert winds from NM and AZ. The entire Rocky Mountains is dividing us and while its snowing in Denver or the foot hills, it may be 60 degrees at my house.

Of course, Telluride is at elevation so there is always a chance of weather and it can blow in 'right now'

No salt on the roads, at least in this section of Colorado. They don't put it down since it will leach into our rivers. That said, they do throw some sand down and we have to wait for some good spring showers to remove that.

This time of the year is hit or miss. I been up to Telluride (one of our favorite drives is the Million Dollar hwy loop) this time of the year and no problem....other times, it may be snowing

Rather than deciding 6 weeks ahead of time, you will be better off calling it just days ahead. This way you can get accurate weather conditions and you can even PM me and I can tell you what its looking like. We go to Telluride for lunch/dinner quite a bit and we would be driving on the same road you would be coming up on

PM me and I will give you all my contact info as well

    Sounds good, thanks!

Yeah I always used to go there for skiing (used to get 20 ski days in per year) but it was always winter and I knew it would be snowing. So this is an anomaly for me.
