Space Florida Shuttle Runway 200 MPH RUN

I am hoping you guys enjoy the video as much as I did running down the shuttle runway. I want to put together about 40 cars to do this again this year. Johnny will work out a special rate if get 40 to go. 2 days of high speed runs, helicopter video included with tons of pictures. Let me know if there's interest, I will work on rate, details etc. Would be great to be all Viper event.

There's no place in the world like it, smoothest exterior concrete surface in the world which make for some high speeds. Johnny even mentioned we could back up a little more and do 2.125 miles if we wanted to and still have a mile to whoa it. We will do 1/2, 1, 1.5 and 2 mile runs for 2 days. Includes some great video and a lot of pics. He really puts together a class event. David

I didn't time it but it does go by quick, I did about 156 in the 1/2, 181+ in the mile, 191+ in the 1.5 mile and then the 200+ in the 2 mile. That was the last run of the day so it was go big or go home. I had a bruise on the bottom of my right foot from that last run. The run before it was 199.747 I think, so close...........and I was sweating making the 200. Car feels so solid at speed, no wiggle at all

No you can bring either of those Lamborghini's and your Viper, I believe Johnny allows 2 cars per driver at same price.

That is a great video. I am looking forward to getting one on my run. I was notified that they had to change the date to May 27th and 28th. I am still planning to come down. This will also give people a little more time to decide to take their cars. I am looking forward to seeing all the cars, and especially Vipers. I think this is a chance of a lifetime and worth the 5 day drive to me.

I wanted to let people know that the date for the next Kennedy Space Center runway event is June 3rd and 4th 2017. This allows you a little more time to decide to have some fun seeing how fast your car can go. To check on what the event is about you can go to https://www.baddgt.com/provinggrounds . I am going to make the long drive from Washington state and hope to see some other Vipers there.

If anyone can't make it to the June 3/4 date there will be another one in early November. I plan on running that one, it will be cooler then and car will make more HP. I'm working on some better aero up front and some additional HP for mine. I am hoping for a 210+ MPH run if all goes as planned. Viperr I will come over and help you out with your runs, pretty sure you will be able to get a 200+ run out of it based on your 1.5 mile speeds. Keep me advised of your schedule.

It's $2950 for the June event, but if we can get 40 cars for Nov it will be $1850 for same 2 days, video, helicopter, pics etc

To be clear, it's $1,850 per driver?

Yes that is price for 1 driver, u can bring 2 cars and 1 guest for the $1850, u can swap cars but only person listed as driver can drive. I will contact Johnny and confirm this

  15. #15
The info above is correct, only thing to add is your guest can ride with u as long as they have proper safety gear, at min everyone needs fire jacket and helmet. I would suggest going a little further with safety gear but that's up to what everyone thinks their life is worth.

Beautiful and dry in Nov...June not so much...Hot, Humid, afternoon showers are common....I wonder how inclemet weather is handled. We all know how often summer shuttle launches were changed due to Cape Canaveral weather....

That's the reason for doing this in Nov, weather is so much better and temps are cooler. Much less chance of showers or storms. I know if there is lightning we have to clear the runway and everyone has to return to shelter until it clears. If there is rain on either day we will lose that day, It's tough to schedule time on the runway with everything going on out there at Kennedy Space Center but we have asked for Nov 4/5 and should know soon if that date is workable.

I remember standing on that Runway when it had just been built and the First Space shuttle was still to be launched!

There was not a tire mark on it! I remember then thinking that would be an awesome place for some top flight runs

It's an amazing piece of concrete, over 3 miles long and I was told it's the most level exterior concrete surface in the world. It's a shame the shuttle program ended, but they were getting kind of dated and it seems private industry is picking up where NASA left off. One cool thing they did was put a plaque on the runway surface at the point of touchdown where each shuttle made it's last landing. Lot of history there and standing on the surface looking toward the other end is definitely inspiring. Then getting in your car and running it down the center of that runway at 200+ MPH is for sure a dream come true. I can't wait to get back over there and do it all over again.

    That's amazingly cool.

What do you have done to your car? I assume you need 6th gear to hit 200+ as the 2010 cars have the shorter 5th gear. Did you shorten 6th? Or did you change rear end gears?

I don't need 6th gear to make it to 200, they tend to fall on their face in 6th and even in 5th I wish I had a closer ratio. A .89 5th and a .80 6th would be a great combo if it was possible.
    The bolt on parts were:

    1-Gen 5 intake
2-Balenger Headers with cat delete and 3" Corsa
    3-UD Pulley
    4-Wave Trax LSD
    5-3.21 differential gear
    6-2 piece brake rotors
    7-HP Tuner
    8-BC Racing coilovers
    9-Autoform Rollbar
    10-Autoform Hardtop modified for 200+
    11-Simpson 6 point Harnesses
    12-Halon Fire Extinguisher

The 2010 has the .80 5th gear so theoretically it's capable of 210 MPH in 5th gear at 6600 RPM. I crossed the 2 mile mark at 200.472 at 6250 RPM. Which was about what I expected it to do. It needs a little better aero to make the 210 but I have some revised body parts in the works that hopefully will allow me to do that. My ultimate goal is 200 in the mile, not sure if anyone has ever done that in a NA Viper. I've seen some 195 speeds on the forum that others have done and been NA. There is only so much HP that the NA cars are capable of so I'm trying to spent my efforts on making the body cut thru the air better. If you have the time come down in Nov and join us, it's going to be one of those events that u would remember forever.

David is running a 3.21 rear end. Not a 3.07. I wonder how my 3.55's will do....

Try this out, you can calculate your speed at various RPMs and also play around with gearing changes to see what it does to your speeds.

David, is there an option to attend and drive only one of the two days?
