Exclamation Huracan Ring Record Could Have Been Faked

For those following the Nurburgring record that was recently set, be prepared to have it thrown on its ear...

Seems like there's a good bit of data out there that is showing not only a possible inaccurate time, but perhaps even an intentional altering of the video. This of course, would be big news.

Stay tuned for more info. News has begun hitting the net, Google it to begin following the story. Feel free to share new links as they get posted.

We'll see how this pans out. Fingers crossed.

You know, David Hasselhoff is German, the track is in Germany and Lamborghini is owned by the Germans........I'm surprised it didn't set a lap under 1 minute.
LOL, that is a damn funny video.

We all know the Viper from the show "Viper" could take KITT. It wouldn't even be a race.

Jokes aside, this story is something I would have thought was an April fools joke. Im more likely to believe they stretched the limits on the term "production car" but gutting the car or having shocks that are available for purchase but don't come on the car factory (something along those lines) than a flat out lie and manipulation of the footage? The risk of unbelievable embarrassment is through the roof. If it's true that they just fabricated a time, that would effect sales across the brand and embarrass the brand and owners for years.

If you are measuring lap time who cares what the speedometer/tachometer says and whether a GPS measurement of speed was used or a wheel speed sensor? If the claim is actual top speed then I would never trust GPS data for all the reasons noted. But, time is not measured with a GPS or wheel speed sensor.

Doesn't the Nurburgring track have an official clock to measure track times? I would think an official record is up to the track officials and not anyone with video and timer in the car.

Looks like it was conducted by the same people who conducted the German Diesel emission testing........lol !

Nope. The Ring isn't officially sanctioned by any group whatsoever. So it's a complete free-for-all when it comes to this stuff. HOWEVER, a majority of the cars that HAVE run the Ring in a record attempt have all been factory cars, the manufacturers have been playing pretty fair.

Yet. This is the first time it's left everyone scratching their chins and doing their homework. There's another video out there that discusses the comparison between the 918 and this thing in different sectors of the track. I think it was 41 times the 91 was faster, yet the Lambo had the faster time.

Yes , Brian, Lambo is under the VW wing, so.......................it not only was the fastest , it did not emit any carbon footprint while on the track.

Somewhere in Wolfsburg........" Scheiss, ve ist in die grossest trubbull meine freunds, ve needz to gesplitz dis platz !!!!"

If the telemetry is correct, it is the only car I know of that can run at race speeds and never exceed about 185 degrees Fahrenheit (temp gauge never moves the whole lap)......yet the fuel gauge did go down as the car completed the lap.

I'm sure it's just a glitch in their emissions algorithm program to let owners think that their Lambo's never get hot at the track, lol.

    AP newswire :

Lambo Lambasted for emitting fake news , while VW just emits pollutants. Appears the winds of change are turning up with the destructive force of a Hurricane , er, Huracan.

Seriously , for Lamborghini's sake , I do hope this does end up being verified, but pretty funny folks are wondering it is legit?

Exactly. Wouldn't this tank the brand? Everyone who pulls up to a cars and coffe will get asked how long it took them to get there and when they say "20 minutes or so" their buddies will say "so like an hour, then?" I mean it sounds like insanity to fabricate a lap time. Non DOT tires or whatever, yeah fine we know they pull those tricks. But this sounds nuts.

Haha...the speedometer also read 110 when doing 55mph so they think they are going super fast. It's all about driver experience these days : )

Hopefully when the Viper goes, they double up on the footage/tracking equipment and have a drone that flies overhead to show it all. Basically so the entire effort can not be refuted. If it runs under 7 seconds, that will be a good enough achievement for the Viper community, even if it can not beat the fake Lambo news times or the megadollar Porsche time. Let's be realistic, it is almost in the noise $ level compared to these other cars.
