Before opening this thread, I already assumed the worst, and the bashful responses the OP would've been receiving. So touchy.... I personally respect people for their interest in the values going up, and I respect all those who get the most use and enjoyment out of theirs. We like the car because it's an uber cool car regardless. Let's just share that in common. To the OP, you have a more limited edition car, so in collectible theory, if some Gen 2 values go up, yours should be a wonderful candidate.

Great word! Don't think I've ever heard that one used before. I also dont think you'll find many guys at Corvette forum using words like this: Apparently there are some smart cookies who own Vipers! 👍👍

If your tired of talking about it the don't select the post. Problem solved. As stated there are 100 of these post so instead of reading all of them and the replies, it's easier for these new guys just to start a new conversation.

Imo the gen 2s are on the rise and will steadily see 1-3k increase each year from now on.

The more talk there is about values going up the more likely it is to happen. If everyone talks about values going up it creates hype.............and with all the threads on the topic, maybe we're on to something.

    Luc,

Happy to discuss this and any other matters via PM's. Nonetheless, our forum is rather popular and we'd like to think that one of the reasons is that we are extraordinarily hesitant to edit and/or delete threads and suspend/ban forum members. In essence, we try to stay the hell out of the way and allow forum members to hash things out. That's not to suggest that some of our decisions with regard to the previous don't prove to be wrong. We do have a small few regularly abusive forum participants that tend to challenge "our own rules". Maybe we're too lax? Could be, but the "moderation line" is surprising fine and seldom linear.

    Scott:
Having been on Viper forums since buying my Viper back in 2000 and having personally experienced quite a few episodes of "Magic Wand" on the old VOA forum, I do appreciate the"light hand" approach in moderating this forum BUT, there is a huge difference between opinions and insults
by your own words, you had to clean up his post 100 times. Not for opinions but rater for running afoul of forum ( and frankly just some common sense civility and courtesy) rules regarding behavior
If 100 times is not enough for you to apply your own rules, what is then the number? 200 times?, 1000 times?
There is nothing worst that having rules that are not enforced, either enforce them or remove them.

Yes, great word. I consider myself well-read but I had to look that one up.

As for the thread topic - I care about what my car is worth but not enough to really pay attention. It took me until I was 47 years old to comfortably be in the position to afford a 2000 GTS with over 129K on the clock. It now has 135K, and although it is not my daily driver, I get it out whenever I get the chance because it brings a huge smile to my face - and it still would if it was only worth a penny. These cars are awesome - it's like driving a cartoon!

Great way to encourage new conversation on the forum and friendship.

You guys personally encourage me not to join the VOA!
Don't take it personally. Dave6666 does this on every thread about value. Then he misstates what the OP says and it continually goes on and on and on. Much to the rudeness of the OP.

I don't care what my Gen1 is worth. I am just going to dive it and enjoy it. Isn't that the reason we bought these cars anyway??

Have to admit that's why I bought mine, to drive and enjoy. But I know some people just like to store them and look at them

Were all different and the thought that there some low milage stored cars out there will be a bonus for future buyers. I do sometimes wonder what the ceiling price would be for a Gen II Viper. Each year the insurance is up for renewal and the company ask what the Car is worth. To me its Priceless (well almost) but what the car would sell for is anyone's guess? But there must I would have thought be a cut off point? Would a Gen II out price a Gen 3 or IV? It might beat some Gen 3s, But I don't think it would creep past a Gen IV? Then we are now seeing (Some) early Gen 1s starting to move upward.

As I said I'm not in it for the money, Its the best car I have ever owned, Period.

I like to think that's pretty much it for a great many of us. As part of the "value" question, if I've got 50K miles on my Gen4 what value should I attribute to the 8 years of incredible ownership and all that extraordinary seat time. In my case, if I had to walk away from the car tomorrow I'd pretty much consider the experience a break even.

I look at my Viper as an investment in pleasure. I love to drive it. If, as a by-product of ownership, it happens to appreciate, that would be OK with me. If it doesn't, I will enjoy the drive just as much.

As it sits now, I am into my Viper for just under $30k, because of some good trading/dealing up to get to my goal of finally owner my own GTS. So no matter what I sell it for(which I won't ever sell it) I will make money.

I didn't buy it as an investment. I bought it for what it is, how it made me feel as a kid when I saw one, how it can attract more attention by itself than a Ferrari on fire surrounded by 3 fire trucks, how brutal and unapologetic it is for being itself, and yet it's one of the most beautiful cars/things I have ever seen. All of that is worth more to me than whatever someone tells me it's worth or tries to put a price tag on it.

Sure, it's nice knowing that it's increasing in value and hold that in the back of your mind. Just another great thing about these cars, as if they needed another reason to be great.

Sounds good to me Dave. I actually got it out a couple of times last week before the blizzard. Looks like it will be a while.

Thank you sir!!!! Trade was worth it for sure. Love this thing!

I doubt I could get rid of mine. I've had a 20 year love affair with the Viper and I honestly get bummed when I don't see it every day.

I bought mine as a life investment, it's therapy for me since I work 6 days a week and have only had 1 full week vacation in 11 years.

The Sapphire ones will definitely sky rocket. OK, I may be a little biased on that topic. ;-) On a serious note, I do expect the Vipers to start sky rocketing soon. They did not make many of these iconic cars and many have been wrecked or beaten to death. I know it was hard to find a mint condition Gen II GTS 10 years ago when I looked for mine. I am sure it is even harder to find a nice one now. Seems to be plenty of driver quality cars on the market but if you are picky like me the creampuffs are hard to come by. Are they an investment, NOOOO. With insurance and maintenance etc you will never come close to breaking even. They are a great investment in your sanity. That said it is nice to be able to own a car for some time and sell it for close to or what you paid for it. Most cars especially when bought new you lose thousands the second you drive off the lot. I would say that now is the time to buy if you are in the market for a nice Viper. You cannot beat the bang for the buck and they have a road presence like NO other. They are dependable and relatively easy to work on. They re also a drivers car with no computers to help you. This is also the reason so many have been wrecked. The Viper is definitely coming into its own. It will definitely be the next Cobra some day. Will we be here to see it is the big question. JMHO
