    Sound when closing your hood

I was just wondering if everyone else heard a loud metal "clank" and then short metallic ringing when they close their hood? At the factory, i was told to either to stand in front of the car and slowly press against the air vents until the hood drops under its own weight, or pull slightly on one of the hinge catchs from the side of the car and pull down until the hood drops under its own weight. The sound remains in either case. Just wondering if it is the same on other cars.

I'll have to check. I'll admit I never heard of a proper way to close the gen V. It seems so bulletproof compared to the gen 2 which you needed a very specific way to close it or you risked damaging the single most expensive domestic auto part. Opening required two people ideally and this one is much easier with one person. I actually close it slowly from the side and let it close under its weight. I just checked. I hear what you do.

Yes, same exact sound, except amplified when you're in a closed garage, i loop hand underneith hood on drivers side where hood comes to a point and pull down until hood falls under own weight and closes perfectly every time

My '17 doesn't close under its own weight. I have to push each side down separately until they click. Doesn't seem like it hurts anything.

My 17' does as long as I drop it from 8-12 inches so it can gain some speed on its way down. Are you sure you are letting it drop from sufficient height?

I never just let the hood drop. I always gently lower it then lightly push down one each corner until it clicks.

I usually just push down gently from one side, then push to latch that side, then walk around and push to latch the other side.

That's the way to do it. Not worth dropping that thing and damaging it. That's just my luck.

Same here, slow on one side until click than to other side.

I close mine the same way by starting the down movement close to the center of the hood. If you do it correctly both sides close cleanly at the same time.

Its a lovely piece I just wish it had a lovely "click" when it shut instead of the metal ringy sound.

It does make a nice "click" when you close each side individually with light pressure over the latches. I haven't seen a compelling reason to do otherwise.

Mine makes the same metallic sound. As others have posted, I too let the hood down gently and then click each side independently. Doing so provides a nice, satisfying "click." Like an old Porsche or G wagon door.

My 17 hood closes really nice. No odd sounds and it will close from its own weight from only 6 or 7 inches. I assumed they were all that way.

Chad Quick (plant manager at Conner Ave.) instructed me on opening and closing my ACR-E. hood. He said to close, push on both the left and right air vents till the hood drops into place. Mine does this very well with very little push. To open, he said to lift the hood toward the center of the hood as far in as you can reach, and raise the hood as far as it will go. He emphasized to be very careful of the hood.
I've never heard an odd sound when doing this.--Dave

Chad told me the exact same thing. And there is no odd sound present. Just a pingy metal sound of metal to metal contact when the latch locks into the hooks.

I have always push the hood gently from the very top / middle of the hood (I'm 5 foot 7, not very tall so I'm most people can reach it even easier than I can). I found that this always allowed the hood to close flat without being warped to one side or another. Then I walk around to both side and ensure they are fully latched.

Just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with the hood! I just dont like touching my paint because its black and a PITA to keep swirl free so I prefer to have it slowly come down on its own. And due to this i get a noise that sounds a little cheap, lol that is all. Forst world problems. Not hating by any means, just wanted to confirm others had the same sound. That is all Cant wait to start driving again, damn winter blues.

So I understand this correctly, the hood is closed but not latched and then you push on the vents?
