    Viper sold at BJ

    A few Viper went through BJ today, a 99 ACR with DRM 1000hp sold for 58,000 + 10% seller fee. It had under 10,000 miles on it. Black/Silver

    A Red/White 02 with a wing, aftermarket hood with vents in the center and bumpier with the driving light went for 75k plus 10%. I am not sure if this was a special model or just an 02 with aftermarket, hood, bumper and wing. It also had stickers all over it.

    Anybody else see these go through? What are your thoughts?

    i just posted on the 99 with 1000 HP, that car was a steal.

    Also saw the Yellow GTS went for pretty good money as well.

    The red and white car was an '02 FE (#270), Daytona24 (#7 of 9). I used to own her and wish I was in a position to have bid on her.

    should, would, could....

    Boring.

    An original FE GTS is the way to go. In the long run. Not a "modified" should-wanna-be-something...or the real race car!

    I guess that is personal opinion....the 2002 GTS Daytona Autoform Viper at Barrett Jackson got 68,000+10% premium ( 74,800) , for a reason. Obviously someone is willing to pay for that. Where as a 2002 stock FE with similar condition etc would not have fetched that kind of money. Modifications if done tastefully seem to be gaining appreciation over their stock counterparts in the last 5 years.
    Check todays cars at prime time BJ and you'll see some modified models going for 3 times what a stock version is worth.

    now I don't know if I would have Barrett Jackson dictate what the market values are selling for as its seems people there are a little out of wack on what they are paying for these and any cars for that matter there. An auction, esp, one at that caliber of people and event, always seems to bring the money out of the person.

    Hormone thing or chip on the shoulder thing causes people make some stupid decisions.

    Will be interesting to see what the 1998 #55 GT2 goes for today. That should be a good indication of where Viper stands considering the prices for those 100 cars in very low miles, 100% original condition have pretty much been in the $100k range up or down for some time now.

    I have a 2002 FE ACR with less then 5000 miles that I would be happy to find that stupid 80k for

    Hey the way people are spending their money at those types of events, I wouldn't doubt it.

    I personally think that an FE is and should be a great collector among a handful of Vipers in years to come.

    1998 GTS-R went for 85K+10% premium...wow,,,I would have thought it would have caught a little more considering the venue and all.

    It cost the buyer $63,800. I don't think that qualifies as a smokin' deal but that's just IMVHO. I was there and got to look over the car very closely. I wouldn't have paid that much. I don't care who used to own it.

    92's will have their day in collector spotlight at some point. Not many built, all hand built and assembled, has all the workings of a "want car" for collector. First of its kind!

    96' GTS, while they will do okay, they will not be the big collector everyone thinks. Just way too many built that are identical. 97' some are same sans follow through stripes and other small ends. Only 96' GTS to be worth collector money will be first 100 of production which got GTS-R racing blocks from factory.

    98' GT2 cars will be collectible as they are factory tribute to LeMans win. Only on-street GEN 1 or 2 production Viper with factory rear wing, canards, 6 point harness, white exterior GTS, etc. while some think the white and blue are plain, the car is what it is. Plenty of collector cars worth good money out there with "unattractive" factory look. Collector market is interesting. Not apparent exactly what will be most attractive and be a future collectible.

    Hell, my one year only 96' RT with black exterior and "factory painted" Silver fang stripes could be a great collectible being last car before airbags, no power windows, no roof, no exterior doors, etc, only bare bones RT with rear exhaust, ODB-II, etc. sure sounds like a collector winner but it don't think it will be a big collector as far as Vipers go as it is unique a one year only GEN 1.5 but not the big performer. Yet who knows how the collector market will gravitate in decades to come. I do think 92' RT and 98' GT2 are safe. Just not many of those built for any year.

    For me, doesn't matter as car is paid off and I can enjoy at this stage of life and comfortably raise a family. I will bolt on mod to add some spice but keep old parts, just in case. Guess we never know what future will be. I am not worrying about it now!

    Anyone of us that are over 40+ will need not worry about what a Viper will be worth in the future as we won't be worth anything at that time..

    Actually , Cobraken, there were 10 of them done, all sold through Woodhouse. There was also the 97 Prototype done on Bernie Katz's car, but the actual cars approved by Daytona International
    Speedway ended up with 10 total. Interesting to see what it sold for , as Autoform spent the time and effort to get the approval from the speedway, and though more could be built , the end of
    the Gen II, also spelled the end of the car. Actually, only one was done in the correct year to commemorate the Viper winning ( overall ) the 24 Hours in 2000. The other cars were 2001s or 2002s,
    with all the 2002s being Final Editions.

    what is a DRM ? do they mean DLM ?

    I generally haven't counted the prototype car. Thought my certificate said my car was #007 which suggests that the prototype was counted officially? I understand the prototype was totalled in a racing incident.

    That car was for sale on Bernie's site not too long ago. It wasn't street legal anymore, but I didn't know it was totaled recently.
