I also insulated the bottom of the air box. Has anybody else done this....does it help?

Looks really good!!! Wow... I wish I had gone that route instead of using the gold foil (although it helps keep IATs down a noticeable amount) to avoid having to explain it to everyone that looks in my engine bay. But yes, the extra insulation definitely made a difference, especially when applied directly to the airbox. Since the heat shield doesn't seal around the airbox convection will still affect it, although to a lesser degree, so adding insulation to the airbox itself helped.

Damn! You wrapped the Shit out of that! I have reflective foil on the bottom of the heat shield out of sight, but i bet you are recording the lowest temps of anyone...
Potentially my cf skin would allow you to insulate the outside of the heat shield with dynamat then cover with the carbon fiber for a pretty appearance...

By the way the exterior sides of my heat shield is not dynamat. Its carbon fiber laid directly against the metal. If you are using the cf to cover your dynamat the trim i posted will not work.
Nice work! Looks really good. And the carbon should provide at least some additional insulation I would think.
I recommend coating all sides of the shield (inside and out) in dynamat, but I did not do the visible sides for cosmetic reasons. I did multiple layers on the bottom.
One note on the gold foil, it only prevents transfer of radiated heat, not conduction or convection. This is why the dynamat helps on the bottom side especially given the fan wash.
What about using lava shield which has an adhesive backing, is very thin and then lay some CF over that. That should do the trick no?
Pretty sure that's just another radiant heat blocker. That being said you could easily put carbon fiber over the dynamat. Just use your shield as a mold. Lay carbon fiber with a release agent under it directly to the shield, peel off, install dynamat, glue carbon fiber to dynamat, trim with appropriate trim.
Doug, What is the at "pushed in Square" for that is at the front left of the heat shield. I noticed it was not necessary to be there on my car...

Just had my shield installed, likely going to add some of this other insulating reflective material as well, however I would like it to remain a very clean look. Sounds like the dynamat on the entire shield then cover in gold foil then gold foil on just the box might be the ticket. Thoughts ?
