    Digital License Plates

Saw a car with a digital license plate in Downtown Los Angeles. Has anyone else heard or seen this?

There is only one state that I am aware of that passed legislation allowing them to be used/tested. California! I also read somewhere that Florida, AZ and Texas are also looking at the plates and/or legislation for them.

Durability, visibility in sunlight, and cost are just some of the issues. Privacy is also a big issue! Much like with mobile phones, authorities could use electronic plates to see where drivers have traveled. Drivers being distracted by "messages" that might be displayed is another potential issue and then there will be some clever person that figures out how to "hack" them!

Ha! Just when I thought the bombardment of advertisements couldn't get any worse, now it will be on all the cars in front of you while driving one of the last few sanctuaries left on this earth, that is very annoying.

I wonder how many additional incidents of road-rage that will create.

Digital License plates= Worst idea ever !

Not surprised that CA is the first to adopt it. (even if it is only in beta test now.)

Why don't we just run all our plans through the government first, check with them to make sure what we want to do is ok? If they don't like where we might be going they can just shut our cars down. Life would be so much easier if the government just made all our decisions for us.

Amd I'd love to see an advertisement while sitting in traffic. That will help my blood pressure.

It's gonna be like the movie idiocracy.

I like how their video says it will save you going to the DMV to renew. Who the hell does that?

I can't see this ever taking off, for so many reasons. As far as CA goes, the company is based out here, so obviously they were lobbied and AZ is in the works as well as some other states.

We do most of our Ohio registrations by mail, some can now be for multi year ( Up to 5) and trailers can be permanent. Commercial vehicles still have to be done in person !

In Ohio if you want to check availability of special plates you can go here:
    https://services.dps.ohio.gov/BMVOnl...assenger/Check

I checked for VIPER97 and it is available! Also still available are Viper 92,94,96,02,06,07,08,09,10,11,12,13,15,16,17

Arizona allows you to check your choice online which is cool. But then you have to say why you want it when you pay for it. I've never had a problem, but I'm sure some have.
