    Ring Time and Wing Position

    With the other thread working to challenge the Ring time I was wondering...what position is the wing shipped in? Is it aggressive, mild, in between?

    The track records in the US are likely with max downforce (or I could be wrong) but that probably won't be the fastest around the Nurburgring with such long straights.

    Is the 177mph top speed with the wing in the slipperiest setting?

    Anyone know?

    In reading the SRt article on tuning the ACR for the track, they say to start with position 2. If you have u dear steer then move to position 1, or if the track is particularly high speed, then also drop it to position 1 to reduce the DF/drag. They say position 3 is for very tight tracks that are lower speed.

    They didn't give a table, chart or rule of thumb for top speed and DF in each position, which would be nice for matching to tracks. I assumed they DF of 1700 lbs was an 'upto' that amount, and so a position 3 setting. For top speed I assumed it was in position 1, since top speed to me would mean the fastest the car could go and hence setup for least DF = highest top speed. You figure you're losing about 29mph on the top speed for a non aero car, which for all that aero I'd say isn't bad.

    For the ring, I don't know, it's fast in places from watching vids. I'd say position 2 and then driver feedback from there, that's a normal racing approach we take when I race, start neutral and do tune laps and adjust from there, but someone may know right off the bat here, some smart folks here.

    Yeh the key will be a little drag as possible and still be neutral or just a tad of oversteer. Understeer is a time killer.

    Position 1 has worked very well for our customers at COTA, it decreases the understeer and helps with tire life/temps up front which could also be a factor at the ring.

    Position #1 for me all the way here on our shorter, lower speed AZ tracks. I had a LOT of understeer at West track at #2, was running high 1:02's.
    I ran a 1:00.736 with #1 setting, if anyone knows that track that's insanely fast. I would have set the production car record if i wasn't running Hoosiers and had my passenger seat out.

    Sounds like you need to go back out running stock tires and putting the passenger seat back in so you can set another track record for us all

    quick off topic question. I read the rule is cars need to be bone stock. but can weight be gutted out though?

    Car has to be bone stock. I'm sure there are sneaky things done, gutting the cats, changing brake fluid etc. I remember back in the day when the ZR1 was breaking records, they had way more power than 638. GM had them pumped up for sure..

    sneaky stuff eh? then ve can do the head/cam arrow pcm since it will look stock

    I was under the impression that racing seats (or at least modified ones) were put in for driver safety and this was acceptable.

    I recall cages being installed for safety and lighter race seats for safety also offset cage weight on some cars.
