    Documentation difference

    Just a quick question...

It seems like there are pretty substantial differences between what is documented for oil capacity during oil changes.

I have the original 94 glove box owners manual which says 9.5 quarts with filter

I also have the 94 service manual which says 10 quarts with filter

And i have seen some people on the forums saying that 8.5-9 quarts with filter

Ultimately I am checking my dipstick during changes and it seems to like about 9.5 quarts. But just curious why there is so much differential?

    Thanks

I never expect to be able to put ALL of the stated oil capacity in when changing oil...since I know full well that there is residual left in the system.

As I reach what appears to be "full" by viewing the dipstick, I start the engine, drive conservatively til fully warm, return home, and recheck oil level after shut down. On subsequent starts, I recheck level before driving...as reminded by a "post it note" on windshield...as add oil if necessary.

Precision does not always apply to the manuals in my opinion...sadly.
