What Does The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon's Mysterious License Plate Mean?

The new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is like a Hellcat, only wider, faster and with more power. How much more power? Well, that license plate teased by Dodge might have the answer.

It’s not totally clear what the plate means. If you add ‘1' to both figures, you get 12.576@135—12.576 seconds at 135 mph—but that is a slower quarter mile than the Hellcat this car supersedes.

But it might not have anything directly to do with quarter mile figures, as very-friendly-with-Dodge-publication MotorTrend mused:

One curious Easter egg Dodge has left us to ponder can be seen in the photo of the Demon’s rear end. The license plate reads “#2576@35,” and with Dodge urging us to look for clues every week, there’s no way this is just a random string of characters. One guess for the first number is that it’s the new supercharger’s displacement: 2,576cc or roughly 2.6 liters.

The blower in the Hellcat displaces 2.4 liters (2,380cc). The “35” could refer to boost pressure, but 35 psi is a ridiculous amount of boost for a production car. The Hellcat runs 11.6 pounds, for reference. Technical director Frank Markus suggests it could refer to 35 psi of manifold pressure, which would equate to 20.3 psi of boost. That’s still a lot, but it’s slightly more believable than 35 pounds.

That is a lot of boost, indeed. Of course, that’s not the only thing it could be.

If you figure $2,576/month for 35 months, you get a not-surprising MSRP of $90,160, as our own Justin Westbrook and Tom McParland theorized on our office chat room. Jason Torchinsky also posists that the 2576 likely refers to HR 2576, the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act.

What do you think the plate means?

315 wide and those tires and lower weight and a new hood and possible AWD. Way way cool. Its not the 400lb weight reduction rumor that was floating around but it is cool enough as it is.

Thats awesome to get another FCA branded tire! I know it's unfortunate the Viper is being phased out and that this shares the same chassis/body as a grocery getter V6 Challenger but it's still pretty damn cool to see a company shove over 700hp into this car...

I'll wait for the 2020 Gen VI Viper...I really think it's coming back...If not doesn't cost anything to wonder...

AWD burnout marks as others have pointed out. You can see the faint overlay of a secondary lighter burnout patch.

I agree. Some executive will get bored without the famed super car, and it'll become an ego project again in the future.

Kind of funny because in the articles it states that it is "definitely not AWD".

Road & Track wrote "So, first off, yes, the Demon will be able to do a burnout, as we predicted. Also, it's most certainly not all-wheel-drive—that's not what an AWD burnout looks like. And if you listen, that's definitely the SRT Hellcat engine's 707-horsepower supercharged wail coming from this thing." I guess there is no guarantee but.......

I don't think it will be AWD, I bet it gets shipped with a set of skinnies and barely has a back seat.

Yea that was my thought. Trunk kit of Skinnies made avail through Mopar for legal reasons and the fronts as spare rears or something.

I haven't noticed any mention of the transmission. Will it be available with a manual trans or just an automatic?

It looks like it's only having the drivers seat as a non-option... all other seats (including passenger.) are "options." they also removed some carpeting.

So it looks like it's going to be a hellcat with wider tires, a subpar audio system with 2 tweeters, no carpets, no seats, and probably a small increase in boost.

2018 Dodge Demon Wants You To Open Pandora’s Box

What’s in the box? Can we see what’s in the box? The list of things we know about the 2018 Dodge Demon now includes that it comes with a box, and there are eighteen items in the box including “track tools, spare wheels, and a Track Pack system.”

The fourth teaser in Dodge’s water torture of information about its upcoming wide-tired, lighter weight, big fendered, mouse-munching, super-Hellcat Challenger is sort of like the campaign itself. We want to know the answers of what’s in the box. The theme of this round seems to be customization, as Dodge asks us to make choices about whether street manners, quarter-mile times, or road course handling is the end goal. We’ve all sort of decided that the new Challenger is a straight-line blister pack and the latest video and photos does nothing to disabuse us of that. We don’t know what is in the box, but we do see Tom Coddington‘s name plate on the promo photo showcasing the custom nature of the container. Coddington was a member of the Dodge Ramchargers in the 1960s–a group of renegade engineers who made the company’s reputation on the dragstrip. That said, Coddington also involved himself in the Trans-Am Cudas and Challengers, so there still could be the smallest chance that this is a corner turner.

“The Challenger SRT Demon provides a platform from which each customer can design their own ultimate “Street/Strip” muscle car. It’s not intended for a road course,” says Dodge.

Oh. Well then. Guess that’s settled. “Each customer can decide at the time of order, or once they own the car, or even on a moment’s notice that they want their car to favor street performance, drag strip performance or something in between,” the latest press release says. Ok, so, you buy one of these, and you get a box, and there’s something in the box that helps you get to the track? Is it an SRT engineer? That would be useful

Dodge will reveal the 2018 Dodge Demon at the New York Auto Show, but you can keep up with the devilish gossip at www.ifyouknowyouknow.com, where fans and followers can get weekly updates, download sharable content and gain insight into the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s engineering prowess.

The wheels in the Crate video are 5 spoke. What are the odds these will match the wheels on the Demon?
