Paul....so much winning...you deserve an award.
If there is a mode called "D" and it will shift itself - bad news pal - it is an automatic. I've been in new GT3's on track, and my Vipers. The Vipers are far more fun to drive, and some of us can shift as fast as a PDK on highway pulls like this video shows. The only benefit I saw with the PDK on track was being able to upshift mid-turn, without disrupting the chassis. I can't do that in a manual.
Agreed, a tap of the paddle sure is easier, but a perfectly executed heel-toe downshift while punishing the brakes is a lot more rewarding. Unless you're going for a championship, with a cheque waiting at the checkered, tracking for most of us, is about how much fun you're having. Being involved is part of the fun, at least for me. As an aside, I had an eGear Gallardo that I tracked, same idea, only single clutch, and to be honest, the racetrack was about the only place that system really made sense. It seemed to really cut down the workload, which gave you more time to concentrate on other things, but it wasn't nearly as involving. Isn't there some uplifting catch phrase about; the bigger the struggle, the more the reward? Maybe not? lol
The new turbo S is pure insane fast off he line. 0-60 in 2.4 is just god like fast.
Different tools for different jobs
I dunno'...I can shift well and heel-toe just about anything and I don't find auto-shifting, flappy paddle cars any less entertaining on the track. I personally don't find a well-executed downshift any more rewarding than a well-timed turn in, or spot-on line and probably even less so, but everybody has their preferences. I might like the ACR even more if it had a quick-shifting auto box in it, lol.
S.
I recently bought a 2017 Turbo S, so I could drive something fun all year long, even in the winter time with snow tires on, while the Viper is hibernating.
Mine is a fully loaded Cabrio weighing 3720 lbs, and first time at the track with 5/8 gas tank and 235 lbs driver, I got a 10.58 at 129 mph. 60ft in 1.49 all stock.
Viper is much more fun and rewarding to drive, but from a dead stop the P car is unreal.

Good kills Paul, kinda expected more from an upgraded turbo 991
Very nice. I wanted the same thing. I wanted a vehicle year round that I could also enjoy in the winter. I just couldn't let go or go without a Viper so I added a 2016 SRT Jeep. What an underrated truck. Feels like I'm driving in luxury just cruising but it will go pretty damn fast in cold weather. Lower 4.2 second 0-60 sprints in cold weather. My friend has an R8 he drives year round in the snow, I just couldn't do that so opted for a fast truck while the Viper is stored.
That 60' time is incredible. Even better that the car is a convertible! The 129 trap is just further evidence that the Viper and Turbo-S have nearly identical highway acceleration, regardless of the transmission differences. Some people tend to think a magical DCT automatic means that manuals must lose.
Totally agree, my Turbo S even trapped 130.4 mph on another day, with less than 1/4 tank, but I lowered tire pressure to 32-34 and could not match the 60 time that day, the new model P Zero prefer 38-40 lbs in it.
From my butt Dyno, I think the Viper gets the edge on highway acceleration, especially from 60 mph in second gear.
Took the Porsche for a ride today, and at 28F, those Turbo love the cold !
Lets think about the sterotypes the P-cars and Vipers have earned; right or wrong. Don't you just love how ironic it is that Porsche builds a better drag car and Viper is better at a road course?
Great run Paul! ACR did much better than I thought with all that downforce. Beautiful Porsche.
Wonder how different it would've been without the aero..
