How Long Should the Perimeter Key Battery Last

My car doesn't recognize the perimeter key right away even when I'm sitting in my car. I imagine that I just need to replace the battery and hoping it's not something else. How long should the battery last ?

Change the battery. I had the same issue with both keys.

Don't leave them in the car.... EVER!

Drains the car battery and the remotes really fast.

Should last 3 years. But sometimes they drain faster. Easy and cheap fix.

Thanks... The car was built just about 3 years ago.

No problem. I had a constant issue where i couldn't lock the car. It was the battery.

Charlie, mine needed replacing in October. I don't keep it near the car either. So that was 3 1/2 years.

It's funny because I only replaced my Gen2 key fob battery after owning the car over 7 years as a precaution and not knowing when and if it was ever changed before. Obviously the GenV key does a lot more. Actually the first year that I had the GenV I was storing the key just on the other side of the garage wall and the battery tender couldn't keep up believe it or not. I suppose the key battery drained down in that period too.

I hear you. My Viper fob is the only one (so far) I've ever had to replace. However, previous cars and trucks had "lesser" fobs, and in over 7 years with a couple of them, never needed a new battery.

Even my current Ram the fob is the key, which I have to turn. It's not keyless. For whatever reason, the new keyless fobs discharge much faster.
