    No reverse lights

I have a 2000 RT 10 that I bought a few months ago and never noticed until I parked it for the winter that I had no reverse lights. I haven't looked into anything yet and prob won't until the weather warms in the spring. I'm assuming it's not the bulbs since both sides are out. Any ideas?

Reverse light switch on the transmission, it's easy and inexpensive to change out. It's on the passenger side and takes a 7/8" wrench.

There is also a fuse for the backup lights.

Had the same issue. Bulbs and fuse tested ok, so either switch at the transmission or broken cable(s) somewhere. Ordered a new switch and replaced it. Luckily it worked and I did not have to chase any cabling issues. Interestingly enough, I checked the old switch later with a meter and it tested fine!? But never put it back in...

I had this issue and bough a new reverse light switch.... until...

I noticed by back up lights come on ONLY when my headlights were on. And that changed everything... I still have that switch and might need it if it ever fails.

So check first if the reverse lights come on when main lights are on or not... if not.. then it's your switch. If it does come on.. then it's the wiring.

    Standard Motor Products LS345

Takes a 22mm wrench and is on the passenger side of the trans. Check the pins in plug; they are somewhat delicate and can be screwed up if you shove it into the switch misaligned. Torque spec is 25 ft/lbs and the switch comes with factory applied thread sealant.

I have the same problem on my car, but have a hurst short throw installed. Could it possibly be that the short throw shifter isn't tripping the switch? Or should it be working regardless?

No. The shifter is not involved with actuating the switch. It does not touch it and the aftermarket shifter moves the internal components the same distance as the OEM shifter.

GTSgreg, you might check the connection of the backup switch to harness to determine if this was disturbed during shifter installation.
