Clarification from the big 3 dealers

For the cars that received the 10yr/100K warranty only that were involved in the R28 campaign. Does that warranty stay with the car despite future owners? There is alot of confusion and misinformation out there. Thanks.

I'm not a big 3 dealer, but my understanding is that the warranty follows the car. One thing to definitely consider, though, are the mods done to the car. It's been beaten to death, but if you stick an Arrow controller on the car, kiss that warranty goodbye.

Will check , but mine , under additional warranty information, says the powertrain warranty is NOT transferable...................but I got it used and it ( R28 ) happened while under my name. So this seems confusing and I will ask around.

I'm fairly sure it follows the VIN#... no mater who owns it..

Same with me, thanks for checking Bill.

Will hopefully get an answer soon, but a lot of folks are on vacation early this week.

I got mine from Bill (I'm the 2nd owner) and I too had the R28 while I own it and I received the letter about the extended powertrain warranty for the car.

Having said that, it doesn't necessarily mean the warranty does or doesn't follow the car. I'd think it does though..

I agree , as I would think it would follow , but it definitely says the powertrain is NOT transferrable and that is odd to me. Hopefully I will get info to further clarify, but at present it does not appear so - I don't plan on selling it so doesn't matter to me, but it sure could make a difference for someone wanting to trade or sell themselves?!

As a potential Gen V buyer, this clarification is extremely important to my decision of what car to buy, and what I perceive its value to be.

To tie the threads together, here is the thread where the extension was first mentioned, along with a copy of what was sent to the dealers, and a partial copy of the letter (front side only) that was sent to affected owners.

We ever get an answer on this? Seems like it would follow the car like everyone else

To clarify in my situation, I am the second owner of my car. I got the letter with the warranty extension, and my service advisor also confirmed (he showed me the "internal" printout). So, the extension works for whoever owns the car at the time it was done.

Now, I think the question is - if I sell the car, is it transferrable to the new owner, and so forth.

Still waiting on actual verification. Problem is folks are on vacation, but it does appear to have two different statements on the extention , so folks did say they would look further. With the Plants shutdown, there is essentially a skeleton crew at FCA during this Holiday Time of year ,so expect a final answer early in January. Just an issue of timing and the Christmas break.

Could you post the front and backside of the letter? The front side was posted in the other warranty extension thread, and says that the backside has the updated Powertrain limited warranty excerpt. I have not seen the wording for that update; but, since the warranty was original for the car and not specific to the owner, one would have expected that the update would not be specific to the owner, unless it says specifically that the update applies only to the addressee of the letter.

Yes, I'll take a look at it.

Here is my warranty extension letter, I am the second owner. I don't see anything that would exclude subsequent owners from being covered?

Back (looks to be a copy of the manual pages?):

Yep, that's what mine looks like, now that I see it posted, I remember.

Again, sorry to repeat , but the letter is not the issue, the disconcerting fact is under Dealer Connect ( which is what a Franchise will pull up to view coverages , options , ownership, etc on the computer system ) , under powertrain coverage being transferrable it says ---not yes, not N/A, but NO. That is what we are trying to find out , as this is what a Dealership will look at when a problem occurs.

I understand the concern , as it is not definitive, and as I mentioned , once the Christmas Holidays are over , we should be able to get an answer when folks return.

Hopefully Santa doesn't have lump of coal for the affected owners.

Have any NON R28 engine failure cars received the extension, or is it ONLY r28 cars?

  22. #22
I do not have a GenV nor do I have plans to buy one in the near future (unless I'm holding a winning lottery ticket, lol) but I really hope this has a positive outcome for those affected or FCA has a way of continuously shooting GenV owners in the foot. If this has the less than desirable outcome I guess it's good as long as you are holding onto the car but totally screws you to the wall for resale value once again.

Simply ask yourself this: have you ever heard of any type of manufacturer warranty, in any automotive brand in the history of the world, be non transferable?

Still looking into it , as the gentleman in charge was promoted and we did not get answer. It appears it would be , of course, but the problem is it definitely states in the service profile of the cars as being Non- Transferable. Contacted the new guy who took over the position and hopefully we will get a solid answer.
